Mike Casey Obituary

Michael Patrick Casey Jr.

April 26, 1970 - January 6, 2024

Michael Patrick Casey Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at 53 years of age of cardiac arrest, January 6, 2024, while visiting family at one of his favorite places, Amelia Island, Florida.

Mike's memory will forever be cherished by the love of his life, Marilyn (nee Patrick) Casey, his wife of 28 years, their beloved son Patrick and his loyal dogs Cash and Belle. He is also survived by his mother, Nora (nee Goode) Casey of St. Louis, his stepmother Linda Casey of Amelia Island and his close-knit, extended family including aunts, uncles and cousins who were more like siblings. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael P. Casey Sr. Mike was a friend to all, and the world lost one of the great grammarians with his passing.

Mike was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, where he attended St. Louis Country Day School. He spent summers with friends and family at Norwood Hills Country Club. He continued his studies at Vanderbilt University where he made lifelong friends and met his future wife. Mike was an active member of Phi Kappa Psi where he exuded the organization's core values of intellect, morality, and loyalty. He obtained a major in economics in 1992, but opted to pursue a career in public relations, and the industry was better because of it.

Mike started his career at FleishmanHillard and worked at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta for Budweiser. From there he went to Cohn & Wolfe where he led the agency's Chick-fil-A account. He spent the last eight years working with his friends at BYRNE PR where he was able to write about and share his love of bourbon with anyone who would listen.

Away from work, Mike loved music. From classic rock to buried Grateful Dead tracks to obscure jazz albums - he possessed an encyclopedic knowledge and shared countless recommendations and playlists with friends. A chronic hobbyist, Mike had many interests - including collecting and refurbishing guitars, woodworking, cooking, golf and mixology. He had a deep understanding, appreciation and love of bourbon, and never met one he didn't enjoy.

Mike lived in Georgia for more than thirty years and loved his adopted home. From Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs games with Marilyn and Patrick to visits to The Masters, Mike embraced everything about The Peach State. Mike loved his Irish heritage and was heavily involved with the annual Atlanta St. Patrick's Parade. He was also a fixture in his neighborhood of The Branches, where he served as President, worked on the grounds committee and provided witty commentary on the club's website. Whether he was hosting bourbon tastings or returning serves on the tennis court, Mike loved his time with his neighbors who became cherished friends.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Atlanta Humane Society, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

To honor our friend Mike, pour a nice cocktail (preferably one with bourbon) for yourself and your friends, turn on some music you enjoy and celebrate the time you have together. Mike loved making people laugh, and his absence will always be felt. We apologize for any grammatical mistakes found in this obituary. Sadly, we couldn't ask Mike to proofread it.

Condolences to the Casey family. I worked with Mike as an aspiring athlete. He played on several of my favorite, to coach, water polo teams. I enjoyed Mike as an athlete and as a student but mostly as a person. I have many fond memories of Mike. Even as I learned of his passing I think of his smile and it brings a warm feeling, i am sad he has left his friends and family so soon.
Again, condolences to his family for their loss. Mike was a wonderful and beautiful person!
