Nicholas Booker Obituary

Booker, Nicholas Jabari Nicholas Jabari Booker, 18, of Clayton, died Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from cardiac arrest after suffering a severe asthma attack while playing basketball at Fordham University where he was a freshman. Nick was the loving and much-beloved son of Britt & Satonya Booker, brother of Christopher and Carmen Booker, grandson of Andy & Peggy Newman, the late Britt L. Booker, the late Sylvia Tucker & Carl Lucas, and John & Linda Tucker, all of the St. Louis area. Nick graduated from Wilson School and John Burroughs School. With his infectious smile and warm personality, he made friends easily. Nick's presence was felt in any room he walked into and he was the life of the party. He was a conciliator who brought people together and made all feel welcome. Nick had long ago expressed his wish to become an organ donor and his generous spirit will give life to others even as we are devastated by his death. In addition to the above, Nick is survived by his great-grandmother Mary Gregory, many uncles, aunts, and cousins, the B Squad, and a wide circle of friends who love him and will miss him greatly. Services: A memorial service to celebrate Nick's life is tentatively planned for December 21 or 22 at John Burroughs. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Nick with a gift to John Burroughs School, the St. Louis chapter of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, or a charity of your choice, and by giving your children an extra hug.

I am an adjunct in the graduate psych program at Fordham, and did not know Nick, but I got the emails all week about his collapse and hospitalization. I can see by his photo what a happy and warm person he was, and so handsome! Adorable! I'm sure he brought much happiness to many people. I am very sorry for your loss, especially of such a young man who seemed to be poised to achieve so much, and my hat is off to him for being an organ donor.

My dad's name was also Nick, so, he has a special place in my heart.
