Raymond Goedeker Obituary

Goedeker, Raymond Bernard fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, on Thursday, October 23, 2014. On January 31, 1948 Raymond married the late Evelyn Colleen Reeder. They were married over 63 years, raised seven children together, and traveled the world. During World War II, he made prosthetics for injured soldiers including Stanley Reese, a president of the Paralyzed Veterans of America. After his military service he returned to Orchard Paper Company where he worked for fifty years rising to the office of Vice President. Ray loved sports and played corkball until age 65 with the Gateway Corkball Club. He could fix almost anything and enjoyed teaching his sons how to do car and home repairs. He stressed the importance of being a good example to others, always telling the truth, and being a good worker. He attended daily Mass at St. Raphael Church and prayed the rosary at Garden Villas South and Delmar Gardens. He'd had warm beer and cold beer, but he never had a BAD beer! His favorite saying was See you in church, last pew, after the collection! He was the much loved father of William (Linda) Goedeker, Kathlyn (Steve) Wieland, Donald (Kathy) Goedeker, Kenneth (Margaret) Goedeker, Timothy (Carol) Goedeker, Rita (Wil) Nonnenmacher, and Francis (Rhonda) Goedeker. Ray was very proud of his grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Biswell, Jessica (Jason) Brown, Robert (Kate) Goedeker, Lisa Goedeker; Colleen Marler Malone, Heather Marler; Abigail (Patrick) Durst, Ellen (Jeff) Swarts, Anne (Erik) Judson, Kate Goedeker; the late Sarah, Catherine, Amanda, and Lindsey Goedeker; the late Nicholas Goedeker, Liz (Jason) Olliges, Kimberly (Justin) Beardslee, Gwendolyn, and Daniel Goedeker, Lauren, Jack, Caroline, and Willie Nonnenmacher; Jared and Alyssa Goedeker. He delighted in visits from his great-grandchildren Ella Rose, Dominic, Vivienne, Gianna, William, Thomas, Lillian, Henry, Madeline, Benjamin, Emerson, Burke and Walter. Raymond Goedeker was born on June 28, 1923 to Bernard Goedeker and Louise Schott in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the brother of the late Mildred (the late Charles) Tichacek, the late Bernard (Wanda) Goedeker, the late Eugene ( the late Lillian), the late Laverne (the late Leo) Groszewski, Lee (Thomas) Kren, and Mary Lou Goedeker. Dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend. Thank you Dad, for your love and selfless dedication to our family. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Garden Villas South, Delmar Gardens South and the de Greeff Hospice House for their kindness and care while Dad was a resident. In lieu of flowers, Masses or contributions to the Nicholas A. Goedeker Scholarship Fund #P66588 (KSU Foundation, 2323 Anderson Avenue, Suite 500, Manhattan, KS 66502) appreciated. Services: Funeral from KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL, 10151 Gravois, Monday, October 27, 11:30 a.m. to St. Raphael Archangel Catholic Church for 12 Noon Mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Ray was an exceptional contributor to the success of the Orchard Companies and to me personally. He enjoyed teaching and helping others - always with good humor. He will be missed but well remembered. Ken Ball
