Raymond Hoeferlin Obituary

Hoeferlin, Raymond Lee

Ray passed away at home on Friday, January 10th, 2025, at the age of 90. He was born in St. Louis, a son of Elmer and Helen (nee Albrecht) Hoeferlin. Ray was a Riverview Gardens High School graduate and a United States Army Veteran. He married Dorothy Mae "Dot" Wienstroer on September 5th, 1959.

He was a retired auto mechanic from Roy McCoy Oldsmobile (formerly Yates) and a lifelong member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Later, Ray and Dot owned and operated St. Louis Post Dispatch, Suburban Journal and Riverfront Times newspaper routes. Always wanting to be busy, Ray was then an Enterprise Mobility shuttle driver until fully retiring at age 85.

Ray was the ultimate family man. His love and commitment towards his wife, children, and grandchildren was legendary, and his strong work ethic and kindness made him a role model for his family. His dog Cooper was always at his side. Additionally, he also passed along his deep love of sports to his children. He coached his children's baseball and basketball teams, was an original St. Louis Rams season ticket holder and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. But above all, Ray's family was the centerpiece of his life. Along with the usual family functions, he made it a point to attend as many of his grandchildren's activities as he could, being their biggest cheerleader. The wonderful family that grew out of his marriage with Dot was arguably his proudest accomplishment.

Ray was the beloved husband of Dot Hoeferlin for 65 years; dearest father of Craig (Cheri) Hoeferlin, Keith Hoeferlin, Karen (Stuart) Higano, and Curt Hoeferlin; proud grandfather of Erica (Kyle) Steffensmeier, Reed Hoeferlin, and Connor Higano; dear brother of Geraldine "Geri" Pirrie-Toler, Elmer (Charlotte) Hoeferlin, and H. James "Jim" Hoeferlin; plus, numerous extended family and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Robert, sister Delores (Charles) Dietiker and his son Curt.

So sorry for your loss! I want to remember Ray as I knew him in life! I worked with Ray at Enterprise, in Van 3 for probably 3yrs. He was known fondly as one of the backseat boys! I remember listening to all his interesting stories from his life. R.I.P Ray and thank you for your service, Sir!

Ray was a good guy. I worked with him at Enterprise and we got together for lunch at Gettemeier's in St. Charles once a month. Never heard him say an unkind word. He's the kind of person this world needs more of.
