Momtazee, Dr. Sam
A revered physician and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023, at the age of 87.
Born in the ancient village of Meymand, Iran, on January 30, 1936, to Roxanne Dehborzorgi and Ali Momtazee, Sam was a trailblazer from the beginning. His journey from Meymand, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its historic cultural landscape, to the United States, marked the start of an extraordinary life. He was the first person from Meymand to learn how to read, setting a precedent of overcoming challenges with determination and resilience.
Dr. Momtazee moved to the United States on July 4, 1962, and joined the residency program in OB/GYN at Barnes Hospital/Washington University Medical School under Dr. Willard Allen. His commitment and skill swiftly elevated him to the position of Chief Resident in 1965. He married in the same year, beginning a family that would grow to include his beloved children and grandchildren.
His career flourished as he joined the practice of Dr. James Meagher in South St. Louis, eventually taking over the practice. Known for his deep compassion and expertise, Dr. Momtazee worked closely with the renowned Masters and Johnson, becoming an expert in dyspareunia, a subject he once discussed on the Phil Donahue Show and the Jenny Jones Show. His skill and empathy made a profound impact on his patients, as highlighted in articles in Good Housekeeping and Woman's World magazines.
In 1999, Dr. Momtazee retired to Naples, Florida, bringing to a close a distinguished career that touched countless lives.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Momtazee. Dr. Momtazee's legacy is carried on by his children - Nina (Sitzer), John, Jim, Justin, and his ten grandchildren - Michael (Sitzer), Brian (Sitzer), PJ (Sitzer), Samantha, Julia, Jack, Pierce, Summer, James and Lily. He is also survived by Anna Rivituso.
A visionary in his field, a cherished member of his community, and a devoted family man, Dr. Sam Momtazee's life was a testament to the power of dedication, kindness, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

After Dr. Sam finished his residency at Barnes he had another appointment and during that time he was my doctor; I was an administrative assistant, supervisor at Maternity Hospital so I knew him in his role as one of our physicians. He served as my physician for several years and after he left I was still a patient of one of his colleagues at Barnes. He was a favorite staff member of many of us who knew him. I was always sorry to lose him as my doctor. I know he was loved and respected by his patients over the years, he earned those accolades. He was an amazing man and I am proud to have known him. I hope all of you wonderful children and grandchildren have many many happy family memories to sustain you now, and keep him in your hearts as time passes.

Dr Momtazee listened to me when no other doctor believed the severity of my pain. His surgical skills ended my suffering and for that I am grateful. My sincerest condolences to the family.

Dr Sam Momtazee was my first OB/Gyn when I moved to St Louis after I got married. He delivered our 3 children! He was a great diagnostician and had the best bedside manner. I will always appreciate his warmth and expert care! He was the best of the best!

Dr. Momtazee was such a good doctor, caring so much. I was his patient for many years and often wished I could find another OB/GYN like him but I couldn't. When I moved to KC I would drive back to St. Louis for appointments.
God rest your soul dear man.
