Samuel Diehl Obituary

Diehl, Second Lt. Samuel Anderson Baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection, Wed., Oct. 12, 2016. Loving son of John J. (Kelly) Diehl, Jr. & Nancy Marshall (Michael F.) Avioli; beloved grandson of John & Carol Diehl, Sr., Fred Marshall & Jean Mannino, Charlie & Colleen Brown and Joan & the late Louis Avioli; dear brother of Joshua B. and Daniel J. Diehl, Louis V., Liam T. and Paul G. Avioli; our dear nephew, cousin, friend., and fellow soldier in service of this great country. The long gray line of us stretches thro' the years of a century told And the last one feels to the marrow, the grip of your far off hold. Grip hands with us now though we see not, grip hands with us strengthen our hearts. And the long line stiffens and straightens with the thrill that your presence imparts Grip hands tho' it be from the shadows. While we swear, as you did of yore. Or living or dying, to honor, the Corps, and the Corps, and the Corps. Rest in Peace our beloved Sam. May you find eternal happiness and peace in the hands of the Lord. Second Lieutenant, Fort Rucker Alabama; United States Military Academy-West Point, Class of 2015; Chaminade College Preparatory School, Class of 2011 Additional awards: National Defense Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Airborne Parachute Wings. He received his Officer's Commission from the United States Military Academy at West Point where he received a degree in Economics. Services: Visitation and Funeral will be held at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church, 401 S. Lindbergh Blvd., Creve Coeur, MO 63131. Visitation on Thur., Oct. 20 from 3:30-8:30 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection on Friday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Nancy,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Some of my fondest memories of being at Lane's Prairie was when I would pick you and Laurie up in my arms and carry you around the yard. You would giggle all the way and then beg for another lap. I know you are hurting now, but know that Sam has been picked up in the arms of the Lord, who loves dearly. Draw near to the Lord and let him wrap his arms around you now.
Love, Your Cousin

Dear family of Sam Diehl,

You son visited our home in Charleston SC in May of 2013. My son, Jonathan Lee, is a 2014 grad. Matt Haley came as well. Such a vibrant amazing young man! We enjoyed the visit immensely. While I have never met you, my prayers are with you that you might be comforted in knowing that Sam touched people in a very special way. Peace and comfort to you and your family.

To Sam's family,
I'm sorry for your loss. I met Sam back in BOLC and we went through every phase of training together. In the relatively short time that I knew him we became good friends. It was obvious, through the stories that he told or just looking through his pictures on FB ,that he was loved and he loved his family and friends. I feel blessed to have known Sam and honored to be able to call him a friend. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and friends.
