Thomas Echols Obituary

Echols, Thomas James age 80, passed away in American Fork, Utah on August 23, 2015. A memorial was held in his honor in American Fork. He was born on December 8, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri to Samuel Thomas and Virginia Mae (Crew) Echols. He was married for time and all eternity to Roberta Ann Laramie on August 14, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served his country in the Army for three years. Thomas was a nature enthusiast and loved being outdoors; he treasured working with the youth and spending time with his family. Thomas loved to play games; both board and card, and loved to tell jokes, especially if he could receive a groan for a reaction. He survived the St. Louis Public School System as a teacher and principal for nearly fifty years and never got out of the fifth grade! Thomas served faithfully in many callings with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. With his beloved and eternal companion, Bobbie, they traveled together full time all across the United States for twelve years. He is survived by his wife, Roberta and children: Cynthia (Joseph) Asbury, Tina Echols, John (Janice) Echols, Thomas (Angie) Echols, and Elizabeth Echols. Thomas is also survived by his sister Charlotte (Mae) and her husband John Brune. He has ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and hopefully more to come! He has touched many lives. He was well loved. Because of Thomas' love for all of God's creatures, donations to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary 5001 Angel Canyon Rd, Kanab, UT 84741 would be appreciated.

Mr. Echols was my principal at Gardenville Elementary when I first started working for St. Louis Public Schools. He was definitely a student-centered principal and did his best to make school a good place for students and teachers to come to every day. Sincere sympathy to his family.

Sincerest sympathies to Mr. Echols family. He was my teacher at Lindenwood Elementary School in South St. Louis, Mo. in 1960! I remember him as a "young bachelor" with a great sense of humor and a real love of teaching. My fondest memory is of our class trip to Camp Wyman which I think we can credit to his Dad who made special arrangements so that we could attend!

I married a teacher myself and know what lasting impacts they have on the lives of their students.

I am also a supporter of Best Friends and have enjoyed my visits to the Sanctuary. They have a wonderful mission.

God bless,
