Engelhardt, Thomas A.
Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Catholic Church, Sunday, July 28, 2024. He was the loving husband of the late Katherine (nee McCue) Engelhardt for nearly 58 years and the loving father of Marybeth (Mark) Lumetta, Carol (Tom) Herringer, Christine, and Mark (Moira Konrad), and a beloved grandfather of eight and step-grandfather of three. He was the youngest of three adored siblings, all of whom predeceased him: Dee (Bob) McCormick and Dan (Daisy) and Don Engelhardt. Our dear uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle, and brother-in-law.
Tom was a lifelong learner and attended many schools along the way, including St. Louis University High School, University of Denver, Ruskin School of Art at Oxford University, and New York School of Visual Arts. He freelanced in New York City before landing a job in Cleveland, Ohio, as an editorial cartoonist and in 1962, joined the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where he proudly worked as the editorial cartoonist until his retirement in 1997.
His soft-spoken gentle manner, his deep faith, his joyful life, and his commitment to principles will be his legacy.

Jeff and I knew Tom and Kath through my parents, John and Inge Hynes. We admired Tom and his thoughtful comments about politics. Tom generously sent Jeff many of his editorial cartoons which Jeff used in his social studies class. We are very sorry for your loss. Pat Hynes

I was sad to hear of your father's passing. Mom and dad were quite fond of your parents, enjoyed many good times with them. I will keep you all in my prayers.
