Barbara Hahn Obituary

Barbara Ann (Wildin) Hahn, age 87, of Burnsville, passed away on May 7, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.

A private family funeral service in Barbara's honor will be held. Barbara and her husband Dean will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.

Barbara was born on May 25, 1936, to parents Lewis Wildin and Alysmae (Ramus) in Algona, Iowa, her father's hometown but soon moved to LuVerne, Iowa, her mother's hometown. She lived there, near her grandparents, William and Dora Ramus, and many of her aunts, uncles, and cousins. She attended school at the LuVerne Elementary School through 5th grade; her grandfather built the gymnasium there.

Her family built a home in Algona, Iowa and they moved back there when Barbara was starting 6th grade. She attended school there through 10th grade, twirling a baton as a Majorette and being part of the band.

For her junior and senior years in high school her family bought a beautiful farm in Owatonna, Minnesota and Barbara moved there for her last two years of high school. She was a Majorette, in the Usher Club, part of the band, and the homecoming queen!

Barbara loved every city she lived in, the schools she attended, her teachers, and all her friends.

Barbara went on to college at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she also was a Majorette and where she met her husband Dean and they married in 1955.

While Dean worked on his career, Barbara became a mother and stayed home to raise her children, there would be six in all, so she was very busy. She lived in Mankato, Caledonia, then back to Mankato, then on to Burnsville all in Minnesota. They lived in three different houses in Burnsville, needing bigger ones as their family grew.

After the children were grown, Barbara found line dancing and the rest is history! She performed with the ladies at fairs and events and Barbara taught line dancing for years.

Her favorite thing in the world was the Minnesota State Fair. She bought a motorhome to camp there all 12 days each year and took in all the music concerts that the fair has to offer. She loved watching her grandson, Jayden, perform there with the band Ecuador Manta, it was her most cherished moment.

Barbara also taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school for her children and grandchildren. Her faith was a very important part of her life, and she attended Christian women events and many other things.

Barbara also went to country music festivals and other fairs and festivals. She dearly loved the Steele County Fair and the Dakota County Fair; she took all her children and grandchildren to both.

Barbara went to every child and grandchild's sporting events, horse shows, music performances, and whatever else they did in life, she was there. Family get-togethers were the highlight of her life and we usually had them at least once a month. We almost saw each other daily because of all the events the grandchildren were in, Grandma was always there.

Dean was very successful at his career becoming president of Hawkins Chemical Company and she loved traveling on business trips. They were huge basketball fans and when they were young attended the Minnesota Gophers games as often as possible. They watched all the Timberwolves, Gophers, Twins, and Vikings games. Life was all about family, music, dancing and sports with some travel thrown in.

She was our Mom and she will be dearly missed but we know our parents will always be with us. Thank you for always making us and our children your priority.

Barbara is survived by her children, James (Lori) Hahn, LuAnn Hahn, DeAnn (Doug) Anderson, John (Lynda) Hahn, Alyson Ann Hahn, and Heidi Ann (John) Hahn; grandchildren, Justin (Marette), Derek, Rylee, Rachael, and Jayden; and great-grandchild, Avery Rose.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dean.

We are so very sorry to learn of the passing of our sweet friend. Barb & I took line dance classes together for many years. She always knew the right steps and was always so bright and cheerful. Each week we were amazed at her beautiful line dance apparel and matching jewelry. Always a class act and loved by everyone. Each year we enjoyed sharing birthday and Christmas wishes and so this morning when I saw this in my online Sun Current, it brought me great sadness. My sympathies to your family. You were richly blessed. She spoke of you all so often and we knew you meant so much to her.
