Alice Alma Blaize Scafide was born in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi on December 1, 1908 and died Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at St. James Place in Baton Rouge. She was 97 years old and a lifelong resident of Bay St. Louis.
She is survived by her children, Alice Scafide Kronenberger and husband Larry Kronenberger of Baton Rouge, and John Andrew Scafide, Jr. and wife Jean Smith Scafide of Bay St. Louis; her brother Leo Paul Blaize, Jr. and wife Jeanette Harvey Blaize of Port Allen; her six grandchildren and their spouses, Gregg and Celeste Kronenberger of Austin, Texas, Drew and Julia Kronenberger of Fairfax, Virginia, Paul and Jennifer Kronenberger of Little Rock, Arkansas, Brian and Anna Kathryne Kronenberger of Baton Rouge, Drew and Sarah Scafide of Birmingham, Alabama, and Kathryn and Josh Frerman of Atlanta, Georgia; and her thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Scafide Sr., former long-time mayor of the City of Bay St. Louis; her parents, Anita Parrillo and Leo Paul Blaize Sr.; her brother Joseph "Cotton" Sebastian Blaize and wife Hazel Kergosien; and her canine companion of fourteen years, "Fluffy".
She graduated valedictorian from St. Joseph's Academy in Bay St. Louis in 1926. She was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church and the Bay Waveland Yacht Club.
Special thanks to her physician, Dr. Leo Blaize III, and the staff of Highland Court Memory Enhancement and Health and Wellness Center at St. James Place.
A memorial service will be held at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis on Saturday, February 11, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. till service time at 12:00 Noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Gulf Church Restoration Fund at 228 S. Beach Blvd., Bay St. Louis, MS 39520; or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation at www.macular.org.
Edmond Fahey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
