Bennie Spicer Obituary

Bennie Spicer Sr.
August 11, 1937 - August 16, 2021
Ocean Springs, Mississippi - Mr. Bennie Leo Spicer, Sr, age 84, was born on August 11, 1937. He was a lifelong resident of Ocean Springs, MS. On Monday, August 16, 2021, Bennie went home to be with Jesus. He was devoted to God, his loving wife of 65 years, Yvonne, and his very large family. He lived a long and full life and touched the lives of many many others. He was a pillar of the community and an inspiration to all who knew him. It was said of him, "The stronger a man is, the more gentle he can afford to be." This testament of Bennie's character is proven and reflected in the life he lived and in the hearts of those he loved. Bennie's life embodied courage, integrity, and honesty. He was a man-made of iron and oak; yet, gentle as a lamb and could be both at the same time. He was truly a one-of-a-kind man and was recognized by those that knew him as a blueprint of what a good hard-working man looked like. Bennie was a member of Lemoyne Blvd Baptist Church. His love for the Lord was passionate, and he loved sharing his knowledge of God's word. He met his loving wife in his early teens. They truly grew up together, and they raised six (6) children. Bennie and Yvonne loved visiting the Great Smokey Mountains, collecting antiques, and traveling together.
Bennie never met a stranger and had an infectious smile and laughter. He loved to tease everyone and when asked, "Why?" he would answer, "They will always remember me." Bennie was a kind, loving hard-working man who loved and provided for his family all his life, and he would help anyone in need. Bennie's favorite hobby was dirt track racing, and he set many track records and won many championship races. He passed the love of racing on to his four sons and grandsons. Bennie received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army National Guard on July 31, 1963, after his service to his country.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, a granddaughter, and a great-grandson.
Bennie is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Spicer, his 6 children, Janie Lee Spicer, Bennie Leo Spicer Jr., (Angie), David Eugene Spicer (Marlynn), Jimmy Glenn Spicer (Lisa), Kimberly Elizabeth Branham (Richard), and Scott Thomas Spicer (Kristy); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren (with more on the way), many family members, friends, and church family who will always love and forever miss him dearly.
A memorial race is being planned as a celebration of his life. The date will be announced as soon as finalized.
Psalm 91: 1: He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2: I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 14: Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15: He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. 16: With long life will I satisfy him and shew him my salvation. Rest in Peace Sweet Soul, you will be deeply missed until we are together again. Entusted to Guardian Angels www.guardianangelsfh.com
