James Chiniche Obituary

James J. Chiniche

Bay St. Louis, MS

James J. Chiniche, 73, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016, in Bay St. Louis, MS. He was a native and lifelong resident of Bay St. Louis and a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church.

He knew the meaning of hard work and doing things right. His younger years were spent working on a a farm and going to school. Regardless of his quiet nature, Jimmy made quite an impression on his peers and in his community. After graduating from St. Stanislaus in 1960, he attended Pearl River Community College and then pursued a degree in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University. Ask anyone who knew him and they would tell you they never new such a hard working man. Despite his chronic illnesses, Jimmy never used them as an excuse to slow down. he continued working two jobs to support his family and make his mark in his community. In his limited free time, Jimmy enjoyed watching MSU football and baseball and sharing in his grand children's activities. His happiest moments were when his family gathered and he could watch his grand children play. Jimmy was a man of few words, but when he did speak, his words were powerful. As busy as he was with work, he never missed a game, a dance recital, First Communion, Baptism or anything for either his children or his grandchildren. His stoic fight to live for 47 years was inspired first by his love for Betty, then his children and grandchildren. We firmly believe that is was first his Faith in God, then second his love for his family that gave him strength to endure his illnesses and defeat the odds for so many years. he never complained nor felt sorry for himself.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Josephine Chiniche, brother, A.J. Chiniche and his grandson, Dane Erick Knight.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 52 years, Betty Ruhr Chiniche of Bay St. Louis, his children and their spouses, Hope C. Kergosien & Pat, Michelle C. Logan & Sean, Jamie C. Rutherford & John IV and Jason Paul Chiniche & Natalie all of Bay St. Louis; brother, Ray Chiniche & his wife Sharon of Biloxi, MS, sister, Bea Stimmel & Toni of Orlando, FL and his 11 grandchildren, Levi James Knight, Erin K. Ramsey, Kristin K. Kren, Jaynie Kergosien, Pierce Kergosien, Bella Chiniche, Hallie Dane Chiniche, James and Jeremiah Rutherford, John David Rutherford, V and Cody Logan, nieces and nephews.

God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He put His arms around you and whispered "Come to Me". With tearful eyes we watched you, we saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. a golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

The visitation will be on Monday, May 2, 2016, at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon with a Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Private Entombment will follow in the Italian Tomb in St. Mary Cemetery in Bay St. Louis, MS.

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please send donations to St. Stanislaus, care of Dane Knight Memorial Fund, 304 South Beach, Bay St. Louis, MS.

Mr. Chiniche was one of the best supervisors I have ever worked with. He was always, cool, calm and collected. He amazed me with how much knowledge he had with everyone's job. He was one of a kind. I am Blessed to have worked with him and especially to know him.
