Joe Nelson Obituary

Gulfport, MS
Joe Louis Nelson was born in Perkinston, MS as the son of Matthew and Jeffery Odeal Nelson. He was a carpenter by trade and quickly became known as the neighborhood repairman. Joe was a die-hard Atlanta Braves fan and a very proud Howard University grandparent. On Wednesday, August 26, 2015, Mr. Joe Nelson was taken home to God, surrounded by love ones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lee Ellis Nelson; his parents; two grandchildren and two siblings.
Joe is survived by six daughters: Carolyn Holmes, Detrich (Prince, Jr.) Nelson McNeely, Denecee Crawford, Charlotte (Ellis) Monroe, Olivia Ann Paymon and Sherrita (Gregory) Polk; two sons: Louis Nelson and Reginald Nelson, Sr.; twenty-five grandchildren: Kemmick Holmes, Rochelle Holmes, Ashley Holmes-Buchana, Keica Patton, Atty. Monica McNeely, Latisha Crawford, Attienne McNeely, Prince McNeely, III, Linda Nelson, Rodriquez Nelson, Remandez Nelson, Capt. Remoshay Nelson, Recardio Nelson, Keden Polk, Chastin Polk, Lanecia Jenkins, Louis Thompkins, Louis Nelson, Ruby Nelson, Kiari Rankin, Regius Nelson, Reginald Nelson, Jr., Natori Nelson, Reginae Nelson, and Derica Lover; thirty-two great grandchildren; three siblings: Dr. Alfonso S. (June) Nelson, Sr. of Varnado, LA; Ruby Harris Craft of Bogalusa, LA; and Rosemary Crosby Broughton of Gulfport, MS; two brother-in-laws: Oscar L. (Addie) Stewart, Sr. and Clarence Ellis.
Services will be 11:30AM at Isiah Fredericks in Gulfport. Visitation will be at the center two hours prior to service time. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Gardens. WWW.MARSHALLFH.COM.
