Michael Jenner Obituary

Michael E. Jenner, Sr.

1953-2012

Ocean Springs, MS

Michael E. (Eugene) Jenner Sr. lost his 5 year battle with Alzheimer's when he died on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Settlers Point Personal Care Home in Ocean Springs, MS.

Mike was born March 25, 1953, in Tampa FL, to Dorothy and Harold Jenner Jr. He attended Notre Dame Catholic High School in Biloxi, MS, where he excelled in academics and football, in which he played center until graduation in 1971. He then attended MS Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC), Perkinston MS, where he was a member of the 1971 National Junior College Football Championship team. During his second year at MGCCC, he was selected All-Star All State and a Junior College All American Football Player at the center position.

After college Mike excelled in the trades and was a master electrician, state building inspector, licensed general contractor, licensed HVAC contractor and the owner/operator of Jenner and Son's. He was an avid fisherman and served as the president of the MS Gulf Fishing Banks for many years. He worked tirelessly helping to establish fishing reefs along the MS Gulf Coast. Mike was a founding member of the Spiders Charity Golf Tournament Committee and the Southerners Community Relief Club, tournaments providing financial assistance to worthy recipients every year. Mike was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Ocean Springs MS.

He is survived by his son, Samuel (Sammy) and wife Hollie of Ocean Springs; son, Michael Jr. and wife Jamie of Ocean Springs; his grandchildren, Kayla, Noah, and Brayden; parents, Dorothy and Harold Jenner; his sister, Melanie and husband Larry Clark of Gulfport; his brother Mark, of Mary Esther FL and his fiancée Becky Montgomery of Pass Christian; his canine companion, Teddy. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends who'll treasure his friendship. Once you met Mike you had a best friend for life.

The family would like to thank the staff of Settlers Point Personal Care Home, Southern Care Hospice and care giver Ann Slusser.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Ocean Springs, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Per Mike's request his ashes will be scattered south of Horn Island.

Mikes greatest legacy is his sons Sammy and Mikey who he loved more than anything in the world - including fishing! He taught them responsibility, integrity and provided them with skills that will last them a lifetime. He was a great friend and fishing partner and he will be missed.

A year ahead of me in school, Mike was like another big brother during our football days at Notre Dame High School, then especially at Perkinston Junior College, where we were roommates my freshman year. Always a lot of fun. I'm so sorry that he is gone, but I bet he's still enjoying himself. The Jenner family is in my thoughts and prayers, including Melanie, another school chum who was always so kind to me and Carmen.

Though I haven't seen Mike in years I think often of the great times we all had at PERK, the summer job at Campbell Company in Gulfport, and the many weekends on the water at Bayou Bernard in the 1970's with his many friends. Oh how I wish we could do it all just one more time. Heaven is a better place today with Mike's arrival. He was one of a kind. Our condolences to his family and love ones.
