A wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, Phyllis Marie Freund Buford, became an angel on February 23, 2012, in the company of her son and daughter in law in Lee's Summit, MO.

Phyllis was born in Republic, Kansas on August 11, 1921, to Leroy Grant and Ruby Cardwell Freund. Phyllis was a sister to Genevieve Curtis, Narvene Sproles and Leroy Grant Freund. She was educated in Oakland, CA and on July 30, 1943, she married Don O. Buford. They were the parents of 3 children, Dawna Calarco Meyn, of MS, Don O. Buford Jr. of Lee's Summit, MO and Maryann Fox LaRue of MS, four grandchildren, one nephew, and five nieces, who loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years.

Phyllis had a satisfying career as a Book Keeper and Interior Decorator. While living in CA and raising her children, she and her family enjoyed wonderful times together at the family cabin in Bethel Island with relatives and friends. In 1985, Phyllis and her husband moved to Warrensburg, MO to be closer to family, played golf and enjoyed the Midwest. Then in 1990 moved to Diamondhead, MS where she enjoyed playing golf, participating in her bridge group, knitting, crocheting and all handwork. She also enjoyed decorating the inside of her house and outside with shrubs and flower beds. She was fun, full of life and had a darling smile. She was a member of The Garden Club and the Sew and Sew. Phyllis had a great circle of friends in Diamondhead and loved living there. She appreciated the love, concern and help she received from so many over the years. Throughout her life, she was a very devout person. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The family wishes to thank Father Bill, the medical help and friends for their support. She enjoyed spending the remainder of her life with her son Don, his wife Jeannine and Cooper in Lee's Summit, MO.

Friends are invited to celebrate Phyllis's life on March 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 5303 Diamondhead Circle, Diamondhead MS, 39525.
