Van James Simmons

Gulfport, Mississippi - Van James Simmons, age 79, passed away Friday, August 13, 2021, in Gulfport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rinnie G. Simmons, and Thelma Wade Simmons; brothers; Vernon Simmons, and Kenneth Ray Simmons; and sister, Juanita Lois Peleaz.
Van is survived by his siblings; Hubert (Marie) Simmons, Harvey (Cherry) Simmons, Ralph (Pat) Simmons and Donna (Andy) Prince; and numerous nieces and nephews.
After attending Gulfport schools, he worked for McElroy's Winch Company and Ingalls Shipbuilding.
Van loved wild animals, gardening, nature, and traveling with his siblings and family, and was of the Baptist faith.
He will be remembered for his gentle and kind soul, love for animals and nature, and mostly his love for his family. Van will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Humane Society of South Mississippi.
The Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 2:00PM at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Long Beach.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport is serving the family.
