ANN SABO Obituary

Ann King Sabo, 98, native of Charlestown, MA and longtime Ft. Lauderdale/Delray Beach resident, passed peacefully on June 20 in St. Augustine, FL. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a lifelong Red Sox and Dolphins fan.

Ann was born September 26, 1923 to Thomas and Katherine King in a family with 2 brothers and 2 sisters, graduating from Charlestown HS. She enlisted in the Coast Guard SPARS in 1943 and was a proud veteran. She met Robert Charles Sabo in the Coast Guard, and they were married on October 8. 1945. They moved to his hometown of Cleveland, OH, started a family of three sons and opened a successful photography studio. After her husband's death in 1963, Ann moved with "her boys" to Ft. Lauderdale. She began a career as a teacher's aide at Nova High School, where she was sponsor of the Titanaires drill team and a willing chaperone for Nova band trips. She later worked at Western High School. After retirement, she resided in Plantation and Delray Beach, with several years in North Carolina. She moved to Connecticut in 2015 and returned to Florida last year, residing at Brookdale Senior Living in St. Augustine.

She had strength of character, infinite resilience, a ready wisecrack, smart advice, a patient ear, a strong shoulder, a good slap when one was "needed," a belief in moving ahead no matter what, a playful sense of fun and an adventurous curiosity, with sapphire-blue eyes that could spot a liar and also see the hope in a troubled kid. Throughout her life, she was an example of courage and independence.

She is survived by her boys, Robert, James and William, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County.
