Barry Ives Finkel

1958 - 2021

Barry Ives Finkel was born on Avenue P in Brooklyn, August 5, 1958. A true New Yorker, he walked fast, talked fast and had a vernacular to rival Lincoln. Grateful Dead lyrics and basketball defined his high school years at Lawrence Woodmere Academy. Barry attended Tulane University, class of 1980. There he developed his love for the city of New Orleans , but his allegiance was held by the University of Miami football team. A lawyer in mind, body, and soul, he graduated Nova Law School in 1983 and opened a Pompano Beach firm the following year. He was exceptional in his law practice of 38 years, serving Broward County as the chair of the Family Law Section and the Bench Bar Liaison Committee, but his true passion was being a father. Chase, Spencer and Brent inherited his love of history, sports and music. He was married to Kelly Young for 30 years. Together, with their 3 boys, they vacationed around the country exploring battle ships, Rocky Mountain ski slopes, and the quest to find the perfect oyster. He never missed one of his kids sporting events, and he coached many. Prioritizing family above all else, he lived life fully, and loved deeply. Barry lost his battle with lung cancer on August 22, 2021. He is survived by his mother, Roslyn, his sister Hillary Barletta, and his children Chase, Spencer and Brent.
