Edward Liva Obituary

Liva, Edward L., MD, age 80 of Ridgewood, NJ died March 3, 2005. Dr. Liva was predeceased by his wife Dorothea. Dr. Liva was a graduate of Lyndhurst High School Class of 1943, Harvard College, Class of 1947, Harvard Medical School Class of 1950. He had served as a Captain in the Air Force until being discharged in 1957. Dr. Liva was a practicing Ophthalmologist in Ridgewood from 1957 until his retirement in 1997. He was a charter member of the Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He was a Senior attending at Manhatten Eye & Ear Hopsital, and an attending physician at Hackensack Medical Center, Valley Hospital, and Pascack Valley Hospital. He is survived by a daughter Elaine Plaut of Ridgewood; four sons, Edward, Jr. of Boca Raton, FL, Dr. Bradford of Mahwah, NJ, Dr. Douglas of Mahwah, NJ, Dr. Jeffery of Saddle River; 15 grandchildren and a sister Matilda Heins of Cranford, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:45 AM, Monday, March 6 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Ridgewood, NJ. Visiting will be 6-8 Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 Sunday at the C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home, 306 E. Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, NJ. (www.vanemburgh.com).

I met Edward when i was just a baby. I owe my sight to him. He always treated me like a good friend, not a number like most dr.'s do. I will always remember, "Look at the end of the hall miss gioia, look at the end of the hall". As an adult he treated me & my friends with respect. You will be greatly missed Dr. Liva.
