Gerald Walsh Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Gerald Vincent Walsh, 89, of Coral Springs, Florida on May 16, 2022. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Katherine Alice Walsh. He will be greatly missed by his children and their families; Tracey and John Walsh, Winnie DeMent and Joe Walsh, Katie and John Meyer, Mari and David Wells, Nick Iarriccio, Jen and Michael Cecere. His grandchildren, Kelcie Brophy, Sabrina and Dan Walsh, Trevor, Colin and Karina Walsh, Nicholas and Joey Iarriccio, Kyra, Mia and Ean Wells, Delaney, Riley and Thomas Cecere also grieve his passing. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, brother and his daughter, Nancie Iarriccio.

Jerry Walsh was born July 13,1932 to Arline Arntz and Leonard Walsh in Keego Harbor, Michigan. He grew up with his parents and brother in rural Clarkston, Michigan where he developed many talents and his lifelong passion for the outdoors. Jerry was an accomplished musician who enjoyed playing music of the 30s and 40s and joined his first jazz band in 1945. He served in the US Army in 1955 as a member of the 75th Army Band.

Jerry was the first person in his family to attend college. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University and began his post college career teaching music. He was a true renaissance man who was skilled in a variety of areas and never shied from the challenge of learning something new. Jerry began working as an IRS accountant in Washington DC while attending Georgetown University at night to study law. He graduated from Georgetown Law in 1963. He moved to South Florida in 1972 and established a tax practice with a large firm, then served as general counsel to a medical device company and finally established a solo law practice which he maintained for the next 35 years, serving his clients until he begrudgingly retired at the age of 85. It was that practice of helping people with any legal challenges they faced that suited him best.

Jerry moved with his wife and 5 children (at the time) to south Florida in 1972, being one of the first families to populate Coral Springs. They raised their six children in that same house. The ensuing years were filled with a rich family life that brought him tremendous joy. He was not a prideful man but he was proud of his family. He knew that true value in life came from the relationships that you nurture and the reputation that you build. He was a man of character and integrity. His loss is immeasurable but the legacy that he leaves behind will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Visitation is at Coral Springs Funeral Home 1420 N. University Drive on June 6 from 6-8pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 9950 NW 29th Street, Coral Springs on June 7 at 10am. Consistent with his wishes, Jerry will be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered in his beloved Key Largo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to "Plant A Million Corals Foundation" (plantamillioncorals.org) working to protect his favorite fishing grounds.
