John Jamsion Obituary

Jamison, John Buckley (Buck), age 93 of Sunrise, FL passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

He was born at home in Port Tampa, FL on March 8, 1930. He graduated from Miami High School in 1948. While attending The University of Miami, he was a member of Phi Mu Alpha club of music and was a captain in the college band. In 1952, he earned his Bachelor's Degree and earned his Master of Education in 1956.

After college he was drafted into the Army and was a Sergeant in the 3rd Army Band. He was honorably discharged from the Army, and began his teaching career in Sneads, FL, and then in Kissimmee, FL as Band Director at Osceola High School. In 1964, the family moved to Fort Lauderdale, where he was the Band Director at Northeast High School in Oakland Park, FL for 27 years. He was fondly called "Mr. J." through the years by his other "Kids" as he referred to his many students before retiring in 1991.

A Christian his entire life, he was a member of Parkway Christian Church in Davie, FL singing in the choir and also performing in the annual Christmas plays throughout the years. As a tenor soloist, he sang at different churches in Fort Lauderdale as well as with the Nova Singers and the Gold Coast Opera. He also sang during the High Holy Days at various Temples.

Buck married his college sweetheart Adeane Newton on September 9, 1952, and they had just celebrated 71 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband, father, Pop-Pop, brother and his family meant everything to him. He touched so many lives through the years and was a friend and mentor everywhere he went. His love for God shined through him like a beacon, and he worshipped in public places, talked to strangers and loved sharing the Word of God with everyone he met.

Preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Ethel (Tweedle) Jamison and his brother Donald Edward Jamison. Survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Adeane (Newton) Jamison, son John Buckley (Barbara) Jamison Jr. and daughters Tina Davis, Joanna (Vernon) Kadel, Vicki (Bill) Jhoslien. 13 Grandchildren: Sarah (Allen) Barlow, Matthew Davis, Kristen (Danny) Santos, Kyndra (Houston) Adair, Chanae (Brandon) Martinez-Onstott, John Buckley Jamison III, Garrett Jamison, Megan (Robbie) Pettet, Rachel Kadel, Hannah Jhoslien, Faith Jhoslien, Nicholas Jhoslien and Christopher Jhoslien. 6 Great-Grandchildren: Hayley Barlow, Dakota Barlow, Julien Davis, Noah Santos, Charlotte Santos and Charles Adair. He is also survived by 1 brother-in law, Daniel Newton, and 2 sister-in laws, Sam Newton and Maligna Jamison as well as 7 nephews and 4 nieces.

The family would like to thank his doctors and nurses, as well as the wonderful caregivers, Pernel and Denise, and the Staff at Responsive/Honor, Triology, and Trustbridge Hospice Care.

Mr. J. was one of a kind!! I will never forget how he & Miss Still went to bat for me so that I could be in both Band & Hurricane Chorus my Senior year 1966-67. After all, I was planning to Major in Music in College!! Thoroughly enjoyed my year in Band and then several years later while singing in the Choir at Christ Church UMC, Mr. J. came to join us and we reconnected again until we moved out to SW Broward County.
Thank you Ronald Schagrin for letting us know...and Prayers for the comfort and peace for Mrs. J and all of the family.

There is nothing that I could ever say that would convey what Mr. J. meant to me, and the effect he had on my life. I am so thankful for his love of music and his love of God, both of which he shared freely and generously with me and so many others. I am so, so sorry for your family's loss, but I am sure he's having a great time up in Heaven, making sure the celestial orchestra woodsheds their parts (I just hope he didn't call St. Peter a "bird-dog"!). Sending my love and prayers.

To the family my deepest condolences. The world has lost a wonderful man but heaven has gained another angel.

I fondly remember Buck when I was privileged enough to sing with him as well as thankful for his many hours directing and nurturing the Northeast High School band in which my daughter was a devoted member.

My Mama taught with Buck at Northeast High School and I (years later!) had the privilege of singing with him in the Nova Singers. I celebrate his wonderful life and gentle spirit with each of you and send much love and prayers for peace and healing.
