BRITT | Mildred V. (Rapp) Hernon, 98, of Britt, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Westview Care Center in Britt.
Funeral services for Mildred Hernon will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt, with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating.
Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Mildred Viola (Rapp) Hernon was born December 27, 1915, in rural Britt. After the age of six, Mildred made her home with her grandmother in rural Forest City. She attended school at Ellington #3.
In the years of the early 1930s, Mildred made her home with Butch and Gertrude Richardson and family in Forest City. In 1937, she moved to Owatonna, Minnesota, to work with a friend at the Nielsen Bakery.
Mildred was united in marriage to Jack Hernon on July 23, 1938, in Owatonna. They returned to Forest City to make their home. Mildred worked at the Emil Anderson Forest City Bakery for many years. Mildred and Jack moved to Algona in 1951 where she was employed at the Chrischilla's store for twenty years, retiring in 1977. They retired to their cottage in Clear Lake, Iowa.
Mildred enjoyed playing bridge, doing crafts and volunteering at the gift shop at Opportunity Village.
Mildred and Jack spent many winters traveling, spending 11 years in Bermuda Palms at Earp, California. They gave up traveling in 1992 spending time at their cottage until moving to an apartment on West G Street in Forest City. Mildred later lived at the Summit House in Britt.
Mildred is survived by her sister-in-law Esther Rapp of Garner and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, along with many other family members.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack on September 27, 2004, and a number of sisters and brothers.
In lieu of flowers, Mildred's family suggests memorials be directed to the charity of your choice.
