Nicholas James Demos

Nicholas James "Jim" Demos passed away peacefully on September 15 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 72. A native of Fort Myers, he graduated from the University of Florida and later received his master's degree from Nova Southeastern University. He began his banking career with First National Bank of Miami (later, Southeast Bank) where he used his first paycheck to sign up for flying lessons. An avid pilot, he went on to earn his instrument instructor rating. His banking career later took him to Fort Lauderdale where he served as City Executive for First Union National Bank. Later, he joined Merrill Lynch where he served as First Vice President and Wealth Manager for the past 25 years. A gifted musician (baritone horn), he played with the Miami Symphonic Band for over 20 years. Always active in his community, Jim served on the Orange Bowl Staging Committee, the Winterfest Board, the Broward Alliance, the South Florida Board of the American Heart Association and the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors. He was a member of the Lauderdale Yacht Club and the Fort Lauderdale Country Club. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Pat, his sister, Nicki (Lloyd) Lentz, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life is being planned at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club.
