Robert Sweeney Obituary

Sweeney, Robert R., 76, of Edison, NJ died Thursday at JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born in Newark he resided in Edison since 1962. He served in the US Marine Corps. during the Korean War with the rank of corporal. He earned the Korean Service Medal with three stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He was drafted to the Brooklyn Dodgers out of college as a pitcher. He graduated from Seton Hall University with a Bachelors of Science in Business Management. He was a loving father and grandfather and spent his last 24 years of retirement spending time with his family and playing golf. He was an avid golfer. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years Mary Atno Sweeney; his parents Raymond and Mildred. Surviving are his daughters Eileen Meyerhoff of Boca Raton, FL, Kathleen Cunnius and her husband John of Brielle; son Daniel Sweeney and his wife Rita of Middletown; five grandchildren Erin and Dennis Hughes, Megan, Craig and Danny-Bob Sweeney; one sister Doris Bilane of Gainsville, GA and his dear friend of 7 years Rita Russell of Edison. Services will take place Monday 10:30 AM at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (RT 27), Metuchen; entombment is at The Good Shepherd Mausoleum, St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation is Sunday 2-4 & 7-9. Memorials may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital Foundation, New Jersey Region, PO Box Browns Mills, NJ 08015-0820.
