Shirley Van Duys Obituary

Duys Van Duys, Shirley Ruth, age 84, left her worldly cares behind on Good Friday morning after a long illness. Shirley was a faithful wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She was born in Chicago on October 8, 1924, the eldest of three daughters (all now deceased) of William and Martha Schoning. After working briefly as a nightclub singer, she married Robert C. Van Duys on October 25, 1953 and they worked together at her father's radio business, Lukko Sales. In 1962 her family moved to Hollywood, Florida where she raised her four sons. She is survived by her son Jim Van Duys and his wife JoAnne and their daughter Catherine; by her son John Van Duys and his wife Linda and their children Isaac, Heather and Jason; by her son Peter Van Duys and his wife Vicky and their daughter Sarah and by her son Robert M. Van Duys, his wife Holly and their daughter Bo Ashley. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 2:00 pm at Calvary Chapel, 2101 W. Cypress Creek Road, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that concerned friends show their appreciation by supporting the American Cancer Society.
