Steven Rodney Obituary

Rodney, Steven Robert, 58 of Plantation passed June 20, 2015 after a courageous battle with mantle cell lymphoma. Born August 7, 1956 in Chicago and moved to Florida in 1970. Steven was one of the kindest souls to ever walk this earth. He loved this beautiful planet over all material things. He was a wildlife advocate, happiest when he was kayaking, canoeing, hiking and biking. Steven was the first to volunteer for any project that had to be done. Steven was a software engineer graduating as a faculty scholar from FAU in Boca Raton, attended Illinois Institute of Technology and earned his masters degree at Stanford in Palo Alto, CA. He was employed at major corporations including IBM, Northrup, Racal-Milgo & Cequint. Survived by parents Earl and Jeanne Rodney, brother Alan Clark (Sonja), sister Susan Koch (James) and predeceased by sister Sherry Rodney. Service 2 pm Monday, June 22, 2015 at Levitt Weinstein/Beth David, 3201 NW 72 Avenue, Hollywood, FL 33024. Arranged by Levitt Weinstein NMB (305) 932-2700.

I was so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. He was just the nicest person, and I remember many happy events of which Steve was a part, from my Museum of Art days long ago.

I worked for several years with Steven at OpenPeak. A very good and competent man. Very sad.

Had just heard the sad news. Thoughts and prayers with his family. Worked with him years ago and will never forget his dry humor and kindness to everyone around him. An irreplaceable light in this world that will be surely missed.

I worked with Steve for many years. At Racal-Milgo, Inprimis and OpenPeak. He was brilliant and a great guy. Completely floored and my deepest condolences...wow....totally bummbed.

Steve wanted to explore every significant body of water in Florida, and in so doing, had some of us discover places we would never have ever visited. Thanks Steve for making the turn and have us explore Jumper Creek, the surrounding preserve and all it has to offer.

Steve and I were office mates, programming Android phones for the past four years.
We enjoyed reminiscing about the old days in Chicago. I loved his story about being selected
for the grand prize game on the Bozo's circus TV show. Of course, what helped the most was
that there were very few people in the audience to select from due to the Great Snow of '67.

We are both great appreciators of trivia but I would cringe to be in a competition with him.
He would wipe me out with his sports knowledge.

I miss Steve. The office feels empty without him.

I was so saddened and surprised to hear of Steve's passing, such a loss at such a young age. Although I moved away from Florida many years ago, Steve & I kept up our friendship we did many hikes here in the Bay Area, as well as in the Everglades remembering the Everglades hikes as hot & very flat but Steve always found something interesting to see be it some animal tracking or some bird off in the distance he made those hikes a lot of fun. He even flew out here for my 50th BDay Bash & had a great time. Steve will be truly missed, his spirit of giving & doing for others will always be with us.

Steve was part of my extended family -- the kayaking branch. He was like a brother to all of us for many years. He was a thorough planner for our trips to the American southwest. I appreciated his curiosity -- he always looked forward to the next adventure.

I will miss him most for being the soft spoken, good natured character he presented to the world. He never spoke ill of anyone.

Steve was taken too young leaving a lot of friends carrying on with just the memories.

Steven will surely be missed. I never heard him complain about anything. I was lucky enough to have taken a vacation with him this past may and you would never know he was going through treatments. He was laughing and telling jokes almost as bad as Roberts. What a loss to our world.
