Robert Lewis Smith, 89, of Clyde died Saturday, April 9, 2022, in Clyde. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2022, at North Park Assembly of God with Pastor John Sheppard officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
Lewis was born December 31, 1932, in Lamesa to Sam and Grace (Porter) Smith. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps and was stationed in Japan with the occupying forces during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Donna Mae Pursley, in Roscoe on February 4, 1967, and was by her side until her recent passing a few months ago. Lewis lived most of his life in Sweetwater, working as an electrician and carpenter, before retiring to be a minister. He was a member of the North Park Assembly of God.
Lewis will be remembered as a dedicated servant of God and spent his entire life helping others and spreading God's love.
He is survived by three sons, Roy Smith and wife Terry of Alvarado, Roland Zumwalt and wife Pam of Sweetwater and Robert Smith of Teague; daughter, Grace Way and husband Andrew of Clyde; sister, Mohee Barnes of Elgin; He was blessed to have 15 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Lewis was preceded in death by his wife Donna, of 54 years, on January 11, 2022; daughter, Dena Zumwalt; brother, Sam Smith; sisters, Marion Lincoln, Jaqueline Grimes, Geneva Dunlap and Eugenia Smith; two grandchildren, Reagan Zumwalt and Nathan Way.
