Gilbert Walker Obituary

GILBERT ("GIBB") FERRELL WALKER, 73, of Bastian, Va., went home to be with the Lord he so faithfully served on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Thomas Memorial Hospital. He was born January 10, 1952 in Bluefield, WV, the son of the late William and Shirley Carter Walker.
Gibb was a member of the New Hope Union Church. He was a man of strong faith and is remembered for his powerful prayers. He had a distinct voice and was a humble presence wherever he was. He enjoyed talking to people and never met a stranger. He never held a grudge against anyone.
He was the Valedictorian of the Rocky Gap High School Class of 1970. He retired as a lineman for Appalachian Power after many years of service. After his retirement, he was able to devote his time to farming his beloved farm and to hunting deer.
Gibb was a good provider and loved his family. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William ("Blackie") Ferrell and Shirley Katherine Carter Walker and several aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of five years, Kathy Starks Walker; his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Juan Garcia; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Lisa Walker and Gary and Sue Dodson Walker; his aunt, Linda W. McPeak; his special aunt whom he considered his second mom, Helen Carter; his special sister-in-law, Sloan Smith and several nieces, nephews and special friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at 1 p.m. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Pastor Alan Ashworth officiating. Burial will follow in Morning Star Cemetery, Bland.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time, 1 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Barry Miller, Walt Graham, Michael Neal, Stephen Schrecongost, Michael Kidd, LTC Joseph Walker and Noah Payne. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Charles Akers, Jr., Jerry Blessing and Tommy Beckner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Gilbert's honor to New Hope Union Church, c/o Kelli Sarver, 3215 Railroad Trl., Bastian, VA 24314.

The thing I remember the best about Gib is he was very hard working and he took me from state to state to buy special lilies and he always kept me in nice diamonds. We were married for 24 years. I will see you in heaven Gib.
