Joseph Smith Obituary

Joseph L. Smith, 73 of Jamesville, New York, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026 at St. Joseph's Hospital, after years of battling illness.

Joseph was born on February 9, 1953 in Syracuse, New York. He lived a life defined by quiet strength, steady wisdom and a deep devotion to his family. Joseph was known for his sharp mind, calm demeanor, and thoughtful approach to everything he did. He was the steady presence, so many relied on-the calm to his family's storms-and he carried that role with grace and humility.

He survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carmella (Mastroleo) Smith, whose partnership and love were the foundation of his life. He is also survived by his children, Matthew Smith and Jennifer (Derek) Underwood; his sister, Cynthia (Chris) Ford; and his cherished grandchildren, Gavin, Ava, Vivian and Kingston. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

Joseph found his greatest joy in time spent with family. He loved the outdoors and especially treasured fishing, where he found both peace and happiness. His sense of humor, gentle nature and unwavering presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is now at peace with the Lord, and though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His family will forever hold dear the moments they shared with him.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026 10am to 12pm at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel 7191 East Genesee St., Fayetteville, NY. A Funeral Service will follow at 12pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Jamesville.
