Applebee Funeral HomeAlice Hamill, age 92, passed peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse NY, surrounded by family on January 2, 2026, following a brief illness.
Born in Albany NY, Alice graduated with honors from Vincentian Institute and Albany Business College. She met her husband of 60 years, Thomas Hamill, while in college and they eventually settled in Delmar, NY where they enjoyed raising their five children.
Alice was a sharp thinker, conversationalist and active in many local organizations including Bridge and Gourmet Clubs, the Welcome Wagon and Progress Club. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar, NY where she and her family attended faithfully. Alice was an avid reader, lover of music and politics. She and Tom made many dear friends and together they enjoyed a full life.
Always a passionate supporter and volunteer of the Democratic party, she went on to serve as a Legislative Assistant for the NYS Assembly where she authored an amendment to retirement and social security laws which were signed into law by then Governor Mario Cuomo in 1986.
After retiring she and Tom enjoyed taking trips to Florida, Hawaii, Greece, Ireland and Cape Cod. As a grandmother she took great pride in her 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and enjoyed following their academic, theatrical, athletic and professional lives.
Alice led an active life to the end. Her last years were spent at an active senior living community, The Nottingham, in Jamesville, NY. Alice continued to pursue her interests and enjoy new friends who appreciated her enthusiasm, activism and wit.
Alice is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Alice (Dempsy) Foudy, her sisters Margaret Foudy and Esther Foudy Roberts, her husband Thomas J. Hamill, daughter Lisa Brennan (husband Jim), her son Michael T Hamill and granddaughter Katie Burns. She will be greatly missed by daughters Susan Hamill and Nancy Fullerton (husband John) and son Thomas P Hamill (wife Laura) and her many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar on Saturday, May 30 beginning at 10:00 am.
