Robert "Bob" Charles Comins, 92, a cherished patriarch, esteemed community member, and beloved entertainer, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in
Glenville, New York. Born on October 28, 1933, in
Amsterdam, New York, Bob's journey through life was marked by his ability to bring joy to those around him.
Raised on a farm in the rural town of Ames, New York, Bob learned the value of hard work at an early age. After graduating from Sharon Springs High School, he bravely served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following his military service, Bob attended Albany Business College, where he met the love of his life, the former Sandra "Sandy" Hinman. They were married on Valentine's Day in 1959, beginning a love story that spanned 65 years. It brings his family peace knowing Bob will be with Sandy this Valentine's Day and forevermore.
For two decades, he worked as an accountant at Star Textile and Research, later serving as the Town of Glenville's Comptroller. Even into his golden years, he continued working as a courier for Capital Care Medical Group, where he earned the affectionate nickname "Trouble." He never slowed down, working until he was 86!
His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to service, displayed by his 50 years of perfect attendance with the Glenville Rotary and his participation in Rotary International. He served as President and District Governor and traveled extensively to Rotary conventions, including Peru, leaving a lasting impact on the organization both at home and abroad.
Bob lived his faith through his actions-his compassion, integrity, and the love he shared with his family and community. Bob and Sandy raised their children in their Clifton Park home, which was filled with adventure, including a clubhouse he built, complete with a trap door and electricity. He instilled a love of exploration and the outdoors in his children through his involvement with the Boy Scouts and numerous sailing excursions. Cape Cod held a special place in his heart, where sailing in the bay brought him peace and joy, unless he "lost the wind".
In the Late 1980s, Bob and Sandy settled in their beloved home in
Glenville, New York. Over the years, Bob also attended many Navy reunions and developed a deep passion for genealogy, carefully researching his family's ancestral roots. His German, Irish, and Scottish heritage inspired him to travel abroad, feeding his curiosity and love of history.
Bob's passion for magic and entertainment was a thread woven throughout his life. A professional magician, he delighted audiences of all ages, leaving them with a sense of wonder and smiles on their faces. His talent was not just a hobby but a craft, including mastering a levitation trick.
His legacy is not just in the lives he touched but in the smiles he created, the wisdom he imparted, and the memories he created. Like the star named after him-a gift from his grandson-Bob's light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Bob was predeceased by his loving wife, Sandra Elizabeth "Sandy" Comins, his parents, Ezra Alexander and Mary (Malzacker) Comins, and his brother, Warren Donald Comins. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family, including his children, Cynthia (Keith) Koster, Robert A. (Cheryl) Comins, and Kristen Comins; his grandchildren, Brittney (Tony) Vallone, Megan (Payton) Francis-Comins, Joseph Koster, and Alex (Rachel) Comins; and his great-grandchildren, Lola and Sydney Vallone, who will forever cherish his memory.
The family wishes to thank the compassionate care of Glendale Nursing Home and Bob's in-home care team, who helped him stay comfortable at home for many months.
Calling hours will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home on February 5th from 5 PM to 7 PM, followed by a funeral service at 7 PM. Service will be livestreamed on the Glenville Funeral Home Facebook page. Private burial will take place later this spring at Saratoga National Cemetery.
