I never would have thought that when I saw Prof. Benjamin at Homecoming in 2008 it would be for the last time. He was indeed a great man to know as a teacher and person. His death leaves a large vacancy at SBI and in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

I was deeply shocked by the loss of Dr. Benjamin. One doesn't often meet someone as outstanding as he was. Dr. Benjamin never let me pass by him during Fellowship Hour without asking how my job was going (always remembering exactly where I worked!) and commenting on the progress (or antics!) of my son. The lovely service was a beautiful testament to the life he lived and to your family. It was comforting to hear such nice words spoken. He will be missed. May God be with you all.

Prof. Colin Benjamin has touched the lives of so many people. His departure leaves a void in this world. He was an exemplary person and the term gentleperson is truly appropriate for describing this outstanding husband, scholar, father, friend and human being. Rest in Peace.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear this news. My sincere condolences to Dr. Benjamin's family. He was one of my absolute favorite professors and such a great person. He always made me laugh and he definitely pushed me to do my absolute best at all times. He will be missed and I will never forget his contribution to my personal and professional development.

Dr. Benjamin was one of my favorite professors in SBI. He was available to answer any questions that I had about the material that he taught in his classes. Not only was he a teacher but was also a friend. He will be deeply missed.

Thirty five years ago I met a wonderful man named Colin Benjamin, we lived in Georgetown, Guyana at the time. I was very lonely and depressed at the time and turning twenty one that year. Colin gathered all my friends and some family and threw me a surprise twenty first birthday party. That was the first and last birthday party I ever had. Thank you Colin.

I am not even sure where to begin! Dr. Benjamin was more than a professor to me and it was hard to hear that such a wonderful person has passed on much too soon. I will never forget the conversations in his office as he spoke to me not as a professor, but more like a father - not allowing me to settle, but to strive to be the best I can be! Its funny because five years had passed this summer (May '08)before I had made my way back to FAMU and as soon as I saw Dr. Benjamin it felt just as if I was still taking his classes. He was a wonderful professor and even better person and I was blessed to have him in my life. Thank you Dr. Benjamin for all you did for me!!!

Dr. Benjamin was truly a scholar and a professor whom i deeply respected for the knowledge he brought to the courses that I was privileged to be apart of. Although he challenged you, it was only to get the best out of you and to help you go beyond just the required. May God keep his family and rest assured that Dr. Benjamin will deeply missed by FAMU and the SBI Family

Dr. Benjamin was a stellar man, very well-accomplished, and always, always generous in spirit, time, and humor. He demanded the best from us, and will always be one of my favorite professors. He spoke quite highly of his family, and it was easy to see how much he adored his sons. My continuous prayers are with the Benjamins. May his smile never be forgotten and may his infectious spirit live on eternally. With love.

Dr. Benjamin could always make me smile in his class :) I had the honor of having him as my teacher at least three times during my time at FAMU. I contacted Dr. Benjamin a few months ago to tell him that I was blessed to receive a promotion in my position in Global Supply Chain - an area that he helped me to pursue. I will never forget his e mail back which included the words "Why stop at the promotion? You should go for your PHD ... I will send you some information". Thank you Dr. Benjamin. Thank you for continuing to push and inspire me to be my best. May God bless his family, friends, SBI faculty, and the SBIans who were blessed to have him as their teacher.

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Dr. Colin Benjamin. I was in SBI from 1993 to 1998 and didn't have very much contact with Dr. Benjamin (I believe he came in 1997). I remember that my contact with him, even post-graduation, was always pleasant. He was a professional role model and an overall nice man, not always a common combination. My prayers are with you and I know you will find strength in God.

Dr. Bejamin was a wonderful professor. I gained a thorough understanding of his class's concepts due to his diligence and patience in teaching. I am sure all of his students will remember him fondly. He was an asset to Florida A&M and will be surely missed.

Sincere condolences and deepest sympathy are extended to Mrs. Benjamin and family on the passing of Colin.

Colin and Claire were kind enough to welcome and host Evadney and I at their home last summer on the recommendation/introduction of mutual friends. I was touched by his warm and friendly personality as well as by his eloquence, wisdom, and wealth knowledge.

May his soul rest in peace.

Jamaal (and the rest of the Benjamin family),
I knew your father through soccer. Jamaal, you played with my brother Justin during your time here in Tallahassee. We were deeply saddened to hear of your dad's death. We will always remember the soft smile and gentle manner in which he held conversations, and the enthusiasm he got when he spoke of his children. Though gone too soon, he has prepared all of you for the challenges that life will bring. He not only taught you what you needed to know, but he also instilled in your hearts a desire to continue to learn, and as an educator that is the most enduring legacy a person can leave behind. God bless.

May his soul rest in peace. To his wife Claire and sons Kareem ,Zaher,Jamaal &family my deepest condolesences.

Marj,Vernon,Lennox,Gillian &Family:
I have written more completely elsewhere a day or so ago on Colin and in particular our early years together in Plaisance and QC-as I said there, when I think of Colin, among the many words that quickly come to mind are- inspiration, talent, discipline, intellect, modesty, gentlemanliness, mentorship; love ;and devotion-a model human being whose time on earth has sadly come. He came ;he worked .he served ;he fought the good fight; and has now sadly departed. My family and I join you in celebrating a truly exceptional life, for which each of you were most fortunate to have been such an integral part.Take heart and care folk.

I did not know Colin as well as apparently many of my high school contemporaries did. Yet, I remember his easy smile, his gentle manner and his dignified bearing both from high school and the few times our paths crossed in the post QC years. I am very pleased to learn from the reports that he lived a rich life filled with love and respect for and from family and friends and touched many young minds in a positive way. The world is a richer place for the all too brief sojourn here of Colin Benjamin. May God comfort his family and loved ones in this difficult time.

Colin was always a talented person. I knew him a young boy in my beloved Plaisance,Guyana, before moving to England in 1962.Unfortunately I never met him again and had difficulties locating him until told about his passing two days ago. His accomplishments as a father and academically are outstanding. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sympathy to his wife, children and extended family for their loss at such an relatively young age of a brilliant individual who had so much more to contribute to world.
