Eugene Curtis Obituary

Eugene "Jud" Curtis

Tallahassee - Eugene "Jud" Curtis, age 73, of Tallahassee, FL passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 26, 2020 with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Wausau, Wisconsin on April, 22, 1947 to Eugene J. and Elizabeth De Lescaille Curtis Jr. The family moved to Florida in 1959.

Jud attended Hillsboro Country Day School, Choate Prep School, graduated from St. Andrews School, Rollins College, and Florida State University.

He married Jennette Dunn in 1985 at Wakulla Springs Lodge. He was one of the founders, past President and longtime board member of Southern Trailriders Assn. Riding his horses on the trails of the state and national forests was his passion. Jud was an inspiring man and extremely knowledgeable of the trails.

Jud was predeceased by his father, Eugene J. Curtis Jr., mother Elizabeth Curtis Bates, brother, Peter Shaw Curtis, and Sister Elizabeth Curtis Ehlers, and great-niece Elizabeth D. Curtis.

Jud is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jennette Curtis, sister Julie Curtis Applegate, and sister-in-law Margaret Curtis, as well as many nieces and nephews. Family was everything to him!

Jud fought a mighty and courageous fight against rheumatoid arthritis and is now at peace. Our cowboy will forever be riding the trails.

No services are scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be sent to The Curtis Family Endowed Scholarship Fund at St. Andrew's School, 3900 Jog Road, Boca Raton, FL, 33434 or your favorite charity.

HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN!

As teenagers in Clinton, IA Jud and I had many happy miles of riding our horses together on trails, trail rides and country roads. That's Jud on his horse, Sandy, in the middle. I had tried to locate Jud about a year ago, but was unsuccessful. I'm sorry that this obituary, sent to me by my sister, was my only contact, but I was glad to hear he was a rider his whole life. My condolences to his wife and loved ones.

I knew him as a young lad when he lived in Clinton, Iowa. And yes, I met him from riding horses. His horse was Sandy. My sister had Co-Ed. And I learned to ride on Jud’s burro, Murphy. I never reconnected with him after he moved with his family to Florida. It did bring a smile to my face when I read his obituary and saw that he loved horseback riding the trails in Florida.
