James F. "Jim" Eckhart

James F. "Jim" Eckhart James F. "Jim" Eckhart, of Havana and formerly of Miami, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at home. A gathering will be held for the friends of Jim to celebrate his life at 5 p.m. EDT Friday, Oct. 26 at his home at 2346 Beaver Creek Drive in the Reston Community. Charles McClellan Funeral Home in Quincy (850-627-7677) is handling arrangements. Jim was born in Camden, Pa., and lived in Miami for many years before moving to the Tallahassee-Havana area. He served in the US Army Air Force in World War II and was a graduate of the University of Miami Law School. He served three terms in the Florida House of Representatives; and served as General Counsel for the Miami Port Authority and with the Florida Department of Agriculture. He served as Ombudsman at the Department of Commerce under Lt. Gov. Wayne Mixon. He also served as president of the Florida Grape Growers Association, and many other organizations. He practiced Law for more than 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alicia Moreno Eckhart of Havana; sons, John Christopher Eckhart of Havana, James Eckhart (and wife Brunna) of Miami, and Daniel Gerald Eckhart of Tallahassee; daughters, Debbie Alicia Eckhart of Havana, and Eva Chantal Torrence (and husband Terry Lee) of Sunrise, Texas; three grandchildren, Natasha, Aime and James Arthur Eckhart; and a brother, Jo Eckhart.
