Janie Whitfield Obituary

Janie Redfearn Whitfield PORT SAINT JOE - Janie Natalie Redfearn Whitfield, 82, died Saturday Oct. 21, 2006, at her home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Monday at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, officiated by the Rev. Clarke Campbell-Evans. The graveside service will be at 4 p.m. CDT at the family's plot in Jehu Cemetery, Wewahitchka. The Rev. Harry Johnson of First United Methodist Church of Wewahitchka will be officiating. Comforter Funeral Home (850-227-1818) is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Wewahitchka, Saint PaulÕs United Methodist Church of Tallahassee or the Department of Social Work at Florida State University. Janie was born Aug. 18, 192,4 in Sanford. She graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Florida State College for Women in 1946 and earned a masters degree in social work from Florida State University in 1972. She was a social worker for the state of Florida, working throughout northwest Florida, from Pensacola to Tallahassee, until her retirement in 1989. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Wewahitchka and, since 1995, Saint Paul United Methodist Church of Tallahassee. She is survived by her five children, John Michael Whitfield (and Jane) of Milledgeville, Ga., George Alfred Whitfield of Denver, Colo., Tony Lee Whitfield of St. Joe Beach, Christopher Allen Whitfield (and Sharon) of Charlotte, N.C., and Janie Marlo Peck (and Aaron) of Tallahassee; nine grandchildren, Clay Allen Whitfield (and Kim), Lara Kathleen Moore (and Chad), Leah Michelle Hawkins (and Trey), Joseph Lee Whitfield (and Connie), Natalie Renee Whitfield, Ryan Kendrick Whitfield, Nicholas Allen Whitfield, Mark Christopher Whitfield, and Katherine Leigh Whitfield; four great-grandchildren; a brother, George Redfearn (and Winnie) of Fremont, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Alfred Whitfield (and Angie) of Wewahitchka; a sister-in-law, Marlene McNair (and Allen) of Wewahitchka; and special friend, Margaret Hargrove of Tallahassee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Kendrick Whitfield; a sister, Patty Redfearn Brown; a sister-in-law, Shirley Whitfield Cosgrove; and parents, George Robert and Florine Butler Redfearn.
