Karl Suber Obituary

Karl Lemuel Suber

Tallahassee - Karl Lemuel Suber, affectionately known to his family as "Stump", passed away in his sleep in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 26, 2018. He was born to Pat and Adelaide Suber on August 11, 1962 in Quincy, Florida, where he developed an intense love of hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors.

Stump began his cooking career in the kitchen of The Mother Lode, in Aspen, Colorado. After stints at Grant's Ribs, the Musical Moon and Barnacle Bill's, Karl found his home as the chef for Annella's Restaurant in Village Square, Tallahassee, FL. He delighted customers and coworkers alike with his costumes, humor, ever-present bandanas and his crazy antics. If you were really lucky, Karl might slip one of his plastic roaches into your mashed potatoes or tuck it under your Snapper with Vanilla Sauce! His way of showing he liked you!

After retiring from the day-to-day restaurant business, Stump continued cooking, smoking salmon, pigs and any number of animals in between. He also founded and continued to operate "Karl Suber's Bandana Bee Company", providing honey to local businesses and friends.

Stump was a definite one-of-kinder and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his mother, Adelaide Suber, his brothers, Jesse (Hope), Mark, Jamie (Sue), his nephews Ben, Tej, Devan and Amir, his nieces, Allie and Elspeth, his ex-wife and best friend, Elaine, and his loving dog Chica.

A very casual wake will be held for family and friends at Karl's mother's house, 426 Lacy Woods Court, Tallahassee, on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

Karl and I worked together at Barnacle Bill's in Tallahassee back in the '80s when I was in college at FSU. I have such fond memories of Karl and I am so very sorry and saddened to learn of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with Karl's family as you go through this very difficult time. May you find peace knowing that Karl is in a beautiful resting place, immersed in God's love and light.

This is so hard to write, but you will truly be missed my friend!
I'll always remember the good times we had doing the cookouts, working the bees and hogs, etc... great memories.
Until we meetup again Karl... R.I.P.

And, for those who cared about you, may the fond memories also help speed the healing of your hearts.

Loved me some Karl! No one could say my name like he could. I will miss my friend. My sister Tonya, another one of his friends, Nella, Anthony and I'm sure many, many more, are happy to have him to laugh with "up there."
No more pain only rest now.

I'll miss you Cousin. I'll never forget that fabulous dessert you bought to the "Palace"; pound cake dripping in fresh honey complete with honeycomb...and I'll never forget you. You were definitely one-of-a-kind. RIP Karl.

Dear family,
I am so sorry to hear of Karl's passing.
We had many great laughs together. I was one of the lucky ones to have the honor of plastic roached and spiders in my mashed potato's.
Blessings,

My heart breaks today for one of the sweetest guys I have ever known. Karl, you hold such a special place in my heart and always will. I have such great memories of our time together at Grants Ribs. You were always such a gentleman and a gentle man, protector, lover of life and food and friends.... you even drove all the way to Cincinnati for my wedding, met me at the airport with Patty when I visited years later for a reunion and stayed in touch when you could. Please know that you have touched our lives forever. One of my best memories is having Thanksgiving with your family- they always welcomed your friends into their home and your Mom made the best dinner. Rest In Peace until we meet again my friend. Love
