Robert Guido Obituary

Robert Edward Guido, Sr.

Robert Edward Guido, Sr. was born on March 7, 1920 and passed away after a brief illness on February 20, 2012 just 2 weeks shy of his 92nd birthday.

Bob was raised in the Pocono Mountain area of Pittston, Pennsylvania. As a young man, Bob played baseball in the minor league system with the Philadelphia Phillies until he was called into service for his country with the Army during World War II. Bob served in the 23rd general hospital in North Africa and Italy.

Bob married Sally prior to going overseas and was married for 69 years. They moved to Florida in 1956 and raised their 4 children in Hollywood. Bob had a tremendous passion for golf and considered Julius Boros one of his closest friends from their days together as youths in Connecticut through their retirements in South Florida. Bob and Sally owned a Gulf gas station on Dixie Highway in Hollywood for over 20 years that was considered the personal gas station by many of the Miami Dolphins during their championship years in the early 1970s. The nickname "Greasy Bob" was affectionately used by many of his Dolphin customers.

Bob is survived by his wife Sally, daughter Patti Kroll and her husband Bob, sons Bob Guido, Jr. and wife Lori, Mike Guido and wife Mindy, and Reverend Tom Guido and dog Bridgette. Also grandchildren Sarah, Jason, Bobby, Jessica, Brett and Chris, and great granddaughter Jayla.

Funeral arrangements include a visitation at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Tallahassee at 10:00 am on Friday, February 24, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am and a reception in the church hall. Burial will take place on Saturday in Apopka, FL.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Good Shepherd Church Building Fund, 4665 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL, 32309 or Church of the Resurrection Building Fund, 259 Miramar Beach Drive, Miramar Beach, FL, 32550.

Uncle Bob really lived life to its fullest. He loved his family, friends, sports and was very gregarious. He had a wonderful energy, and really enjoyed making people laugh. He was a big kid at heart.
We will all miss him. Love to Aunt Sally and our cousins. We love you all very much.

Bob was a very generous man who brought many smiles to those who saw him everyday. Bob made his way to Wal-Mart off Mahan everyday, always offering the Altoid and a story for a few minutes of time spent with him. His presence will be sorely missed.
