Robyn Sherburne Obituary

Robyn Elizabeth Sherburne Robyn Elizabeth Sherburne, 46, succumbed from cancer Sunday, January, 25, 2009, in Tampa, Fla. Survivors include Capt. Douglas M. Sherburne and Jane B. Sherburne (parents), Matthew Thomas Sherburne (twin brother), Susan Bockman and Kristen Dolson (half sisters), Abdelouahed Taibi (husband), Leila Maryam Taibi (daughter), Mariah Peckham Eldridge (aunt), Rosanne Caughran Spurlock, Donald Ross Caughran, and Cathy Caughran Hamm (cousins), Janice Sherburne (stepmother) and a host of worldwide friends. On September 15, 1962, she and her twin brother were born at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Md. She lived for a short time as an infant in Arlington, Va., until her father's naval duties carried the family overseas. She attended school in Marianna, Fla., from second grade through graduation in 1980 from Marianna High School, where she played a clarinet in the band. While living in Marianna, she was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She entered the U.S. Navy in 1983 and served as an aerographer at many foreign bases, including Keflavik, Iceland; Guam; Greece; and Italy. During her career she was awarded many military commendations. After retirement in 2003 she lived in Tallahassee, Fla., until undergoing cancer treatments in Orlando and Tampa. Burial was held in Tampa on January 27 and in recognition of her service to her country, she received a full military honor guard consisting of rifle salute appropriate to her rank, taps and flag presentation. "She bravely chose pathways of her own and her loving spirit will be held dear by those she knew." I am very saddened by the death of your precious daughter, Robyn. I remember you as such a proud mother of Robyn and Matthe. I'm sorry we lost touch with one another. Please call or write when possible.
