Ruby Wolfe Obituary

Ruby Spencer Wolfe Ruby Spencer Wolfe, 80, who was retired, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003. The graveside service will be at 9 a.m. EDT Friday at Tallahassee Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Elder Care Services, 2518 W. Tennessee St., Tallahassee, FL 32304 or Alzheimer Resource Center of Tallahassee, P.O. Box 3553, Tallahassee, FL 32315. Abbey Funeral Home (562-1518) is handling arrangements. She was born in Kenna, W.Va., and had been a resident of Tallahassee since 1950. Her father was a circuit-riding Baptist preacher and farmer in West Virginia. He rode his circuit on a horse. Ruby was a previous member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Charleston, W.Va., and joined Immanuel Baptist Church when she moved here. She was a charter member of Parkway Baptist, a former member of East Hill Baptist and a member of Celebration Baptist Church. She also attended Christian Heritage until she was physically unable to continue. Ruby was an avid Bible student and a wonderful Bible teacher. During World War II, she served her country by helping to build battleship hull plates and performing quality assurance inspections on Navy cannons. In the early 1960s, she re-entered the workforce as a proof-reader for Rose Printing and later for Municipal Code Corporation, until her retirement. She was the youngest of six children, and has one surviving brother, Orville "O.B." Spencer of Columbus, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews and their children. She is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Spencer Wolfe (and wife Sheila) and David Barry Wolfe (and wife Susan), both of Tallahassee. Her grandchildren are Larry S. Wolfe Jr. (and wife Tracey) and Spencer D. Wolfe (and wife Kristi), both of Tallahassee, Randy W. Hopkins (and husband Michael) of Charlotte, N.C., Chris Peck of Gettysburg, Pa., and Mark Peck (and wife Kami) of Richmond, Ky. Her great-grandchildren are James M.L. Hopkins Jr. of Charlotte and Madeline K. Wolfe of Tallahassee. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Wolfe.
