Sara Earl Obituary

Sara G. Earl, died January 9th, 2011 after an almost 3 year battle with ovarian cancer (Primary Peritoneal) that she fought with courage, grace and humor.

Sara was born April 21, 1950 in Paterson, NJ and moved to St. Petersburg Florida in 1958, to Seminole Florida in 1965 and to Tallahassee in 1970 to attend FSU, which she made her much loved home until her death. She graduated from Seminole High School in 1968 and attended FSU, where she received her degree in Interior Design in 1972. In 1979 she began what she thought would be a temporary career in Real Estate sales, only to have it turn into a 32 year long career. She loved the daily challenges of the work and was very much a ‘people person'. Many of her clients became long time friends. She was quite successful in her career and from her first year in the business began collecting sales awards. It was not so much about how much business she could do, but how many people she could help and how well she could do it. She worked at Coldwell Banker Hartung and Noblin for the past 22 years of her career and won the Customer Service Award an unprecedented seven times. She was a member of the Tallahassee Board of Realtors, the Florida Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

In addition to committee service at the Tallahassee Board of Realtors for over twenty years, she was a long time volunteer for the Leon County Humane Society, a past board member, and a past president. She was involved in many other community and charitable causes over the years and always seemed to be using her organizational skills to help someone or some cause she held dear.

Sara is survived by daughters Abby Earl and Marnie Earl; her son Joshua Earl (Dawn), grandchildren Ellianna and Oakley, and her mother Estelle Guido, all of Tallahassee, and her sister June Guido (Steve Wieczor) of Cedarcreek, MO, along with other extended family. She leaves behind many wonderful friends and her faithful and much loved ‘therapy group'; dogs Dahlia, Jasper, and Ziti and cats Coral, Jade and Claude. She will be missed by all.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday January 22nd from 2-6 pm at The Retreat at Bradley's Pond located at 9002 Bradley Road Tallahassee, FL 32309. At her request it will be a joyous party. Please join us as we share special memories of her lively spirit and zest for life. Dress will be casual.

The family respectfully requests no flowers (as Sara said, they are for dinner parties). Anyone wishing may send memorial donations to the Leon County Humane Society at 413 Timberlane Rd., Tallahassee, FL 32312, or the Big Bend Hospice House at 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, Fl, 32308.

Dear Josh, Abby and Marnie: I know how much you are hurting at this loss (me too) & even knowing it was coming does not bring any less pain. Dear Estelle: no mother should have to endure the loss of a child, no matter what age. June: You have certainly had a lot on your shoulders through this ordeal.
You know how much I love you all.

Sara always gave so much of herself and she had a great sense of humor. I knew her through the Humane Society and she did so much for the organization. She genuinely loved animals and contributed so much to the Society's success. I know she will be keenly missed by her whole family, friends and colleagues. Abby and Marnie, will keep you in my prayers.

Although I did not know Sara that well, she was a customer at my store and I was also an ovarian cancer patient, both of us being treated by Dr McBroom. She was a deliteful woman who I prayed for daily and will continue to do so. God bless you, Sara. I know you are with Him now.

My deepest condolences to Sara's entire family (including her pets). In her honor, I'd like to share w/ you all what I wrote to her in a card mailed Saturday, January 8 & also emailed to her Jan. 8th. I don't know if she got it, but want y'all to know as it re-enforces what a thoughtful person she was.

Here is what the card/email said:

My Dear Sara,

Just a quick note to let you know I have been thinking of you and you are in my thoughts & prayers.

I have always appreciated you & all your determined help in finding me a home back in early 2000. Bless your heart...I remember you changed your schedule to work w/ me solidly for 2 full days, as I was only going to be in Talla. a short time & HAD to find a home during that trip. You were awesome!! Your knowledge, expertise, determination, efficiency, professionalism, etc. ... everything! You were awesome! :-) (I'm still in the house & still love it!)

If I remember right, you were scheduled to teach a class, and you & Chip rescheduled it so you could work w/ me non-stop. That was SO special and especially appreciated & needed. Another big part of the story was when we were in the driveway of this house, getting ready to walk in to negotiate the contract for my buying it. My then boyfriend (from Palm Beach Gardens) had JUST called right then & I had to tell him where I was (in Talla.) and what I was getting ready to do (buy this house!). He & I were both crying as it meant we would break up. You were SO sweet ... you saw me crying and (after working w/ me for 2 solid days!) you said "Are you sure you want to do this?" (meaning, buy the Talla. house). That was ESPECIALLY thoughtful!

Anyway, my tears quickly dried & we got it all signed that night. You had the inspection arranged the very next morning so I could attend & I was able to leave Talla., go back south & start packing! Whew! Thanks again! xoxoxo

I am sure my husband, Earl Morrogh, and I join many others in eternal gratitude to Sara for her efforts even during her illness to match us with our dear and joyful rescue dog, Molly. I hold Sara in my heart each time I hold Molly, and I continue to be inspired by the dedicated and energetic person that she was. The community has lost a golden soul.

Our deep sympathy to all her family and friends.

Josh, I did not know your Mom that well personally, but I knew her as loving her real estate career and that she had a neverending love for animals of all sizes and shapes. Sara was an animal lover with a heart and passion that never quit. She was always looking for that next little furry face that was in need of TLC and a forever home. I will always think of her as I continue to support the Humane Society and animal rescue efforts. Your family is in my heart and prayers.
