Still missing you!

February 16, 2015

Renee, I have been looking for you and Steve for some time. Although we did not stay in touch after Oak Tree Village, I have the fondest memories of you both and your little family. I am so saddened by Steve's passing. He was a strong life force full of fun and love for all. I would love to hear from you.

December 5, 2013

I am so sorry to be late in sending my sympathies, but I was not aware of Steve's passing until I got an email returned to me. Steve was an old candidate, client, and trusted colleague for probably 25 years although we were not in touch that frequently. I send my deepest sympathies to all his family and friends who will miss him greatly, as will I. Kind regards, Ellen Nassberg, FACHE

Dear Renee, Jalon, Greg & Paul,

I am so very sorry about this sudden end the colourfull life of your husband and father. Somehow I expected to have Steve around forever, bouncing and laughing.
Thank you very much for sharing the pictures and memories with all of us.

Steve was just the best area rep I could have wished for during my time in 1985 as an exchange student. And all of you as a family made it so easy to fall in love with your country.

The first months - even years after such a loss are the toughest. Renee let´s keep in touch please. You and your sons will always be welcome at my place any time. My thoughts are with you!

Renee & Sons: Last weekend, for some unknown reason, I was thinking of you and Steve. I went to Facebook and put in Steve's name and it took me to the web. I cannot express to you how sad I am for you and your sons. It just made me cry. Although I didn't know Steve well, I know he was a funny guy and any pictures I saw of him on Facebook, there was always a smiling face. I will always remember him because of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Renee and Sons:

Renee, Jolan, Paul and Gregory...I just learned that my beautiful friend, Steve, has been laid to rest. Steve was one of my best friends, he was my director at Good Sam in West Palm Beach and mentored me throughout my career and was most proud of my achieving senior management at an area hospital. His achievement!

He recently had been supporting me through my daughter's cancer diagnosis, all in the midst of his plans to travel to Asia with Renee. Throughout the decades of friendship I learned all about your accomplishments-he was so proud of his family--the center of his core and being.

I am comforted that you have kept his Facebook page open, I can revisit what his most recent delights were--of course, his family, his home and cooking. I will miss him terribly, but I will never forget him. Lee Jones

I never personally met Steve but because of a family connection I had a telephone interview with him. I was so young and inexperienced but he offered helpful suggestions and made a lasting impression on my life. He remembered me when he returned to town and left his business card at the local gas station for me. It was a sweet thought and I had carried it with me throughout the years and thought of him each time I wanted to make a career change. What a phenomenal man!

Dear Renee, Jalon, Paul and Greg,

Our hearts and thoughts are with you. Sherry, Tyler and I are deeply saddened, but we also have great memories to hold onto as Steve's neighbor and friend. The Christmas Eve and Easter get-togethers, Steve standing at the door with new recipes and drinks to sample, showing us his "bargains", the jokes, the long-running banter between Sherry and him, the flooding of the Honda and the lifting of the roof onto the gazebo. Too many to mention. Love to you all.

Dear Renee , Jalon, Greg & Paul,

We lost one of the truly great guys this week and my sympathies and prayers are with you all on your great and sudden loss. I had the privilege and pleasure of knowing Steve for over 15 years, firstly as a client partner, but most importantly, as a warm, wonderful and caring friend. Our relationship encapsulated the best of all worlds. He guided and mentored me tremendously throughout my career. We spent many hours discussing and addressing the important challenges and issues within the healthcare HR practice. And we certainly enjoyed each others company as great pals sharing camaraderie. Steve had a real zest for life and the rare ability to make someone feel like they were the most important person in the room. His sharp wit coupled with a keen and imaginative intellect created some of the most memorable moments of my life, and I can't tell you how many times I rolled on the floor in laughter after one of Steve's hilarious dissertations or observations around the human condition, events and circumstances. There's no doubt that if he did not become one of the leading lights in healthcare HR on a national basis that he would have earned a spot in the Vegas pantheon of great entertainers. He also brought that same flair and intellect to the HR profession, and both his grasp of the “big picture” and empathy and understanding for the “human” side of the business were primary catalysts for his innovative approach to his job and the strategic role of HR…hence he and his department winning the national “Stevie” Award for HR Excellence…the Lombardi Trophy of HR. In the end, everyone's world is a less happy, less exciting and much less interesting and stimulating place with Steve not in it…especially mine. :

Dear Renee,
My deepest heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. For the past 25 years, I have had the pleasure of knowing Steve. His passionate dedication to the field of healthcare HR is reflected by all whose lives he has touched over the years. I know I am not alone in saying that I will miss his quick wit, his wide smile, his gift of storytelling, and his thoughtful and caring nature. But, most of all, I will remember Steve's bigger-than-life, unique belly laugh that was not only contagious but, a true reflection of his zest for life, his optimistic spirit and his huge heart. He will never be forgotten by those he knew. God bless all of you whom he loved so much and may the memories you made together provide you some solace during this very difficult time.

Although we have never met, I want you to know that I had breakfast and attended an all day meeting with Steve on Friday 1-18 at VHASE. He was so full of life and mentioned he had run 5 miles that morning. Also, before the meeting he spoke fondly of his family and new grandchild. I am so happy I was able to spend that time with him that day. I've known Steve for many years through FSHHRA and ASHHRA and he was just the finest person, and always fun to be around. He will be dearly missed in our HR circles. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time and may he rest in God's eternal peace and love. Please know he made a great impact with many of us in his life on this earth and touched many hearts.
