Wayne Shook Obituary

Wayne Q. Shook

Wayne Q. Shook, 88, passed away Wednesday June 1, 2011, at Big Bend Hospice House. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Betty; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Pat of Sopchoppy; Jerry and Kathy of Tallahassee; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Terry Adams of Tampa, Debbie and Stan Derzypolski of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Robin White (Chester), Suzanne Selph (Brian), Kristin Marschka (James), Bryan Shook, Bill Mason, Shelley Gandy (Bert); eleven great-grandchildren.

Wayne was born June 10, 1923, in Sunman, IN and moved his young family to Sarasota in 1952. A promotion brought the family to Tallahassee in 1958, where he eventually retired from the Health Center (Thagard) and FSU. After retirement Wayne and Betty spent ten happy years in Franklin, NC before returning to Tallahassee.

Wayne was a member of the Order of Masons for over 55 years and a former Commander of the American Legion Post 13. He served proudly in WWII as Sgt of his company. He has been a faithful Methodist and will be lovingly remembered by his wife, family and friends.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions can be made to Big Bend Hospice House, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, Florida 32308. Online condolences may be made at www.abbeyfh.com.

Dear Betty and Family,
Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of loss. We have so many wonderful memories of camping trips and home-made ice cream! And let's not forget Wayne and I winning the canoe race even though then made us enter the men's division. Please know we will keep you close to our hearts and in our prayers.

With Love,

George and Sue Curry
