POPE, Calvin Adams

87, husband of Jeddeth Gay Pope and longtime resident of Tampa, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018. He was born and raised in Durham, NC and served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Midway. He later attended Duke University, graduating with a law degree in 1958. He remained a life-long Blue Devils fan. Calvin moved to Florida after graduation and worked as a trial lawyer in the Tampa Bay area. He was convinced by colleagues to run for the Hillsborough County Circuit Court bench in 1977, won election and served until 1984, whereupon he returned to private practice. Calvin had a variety of interests including literature, music and art and was a pilot. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Jeddeth; son-in-law John "Jay" Scalise and wife, Yvonne; daughter-in-law Gaye Northcutt and husband, David; grandsons, Joshua and Nicolas Scalise, Ian Northcutt; and great-grandson Sebastian Scalise. Calvin survived his brothers, Warren, Jack and Billy; and sisters, Lucille and Edith. Calvin wrote: "Keep at it and you may be as lucky as I and cross over before it is all done." He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, July 5 at 2:30 pm.
