He was my Stepfather and for many years (1995-2005) my best Friend. We lived the dream of being special guests in the pit area during NASCAR races for years and caught practically every species of fish in the sea. I loved him and I will miss him terribly even though some years have passed since we spent time together.

Charlie and I dated for over 5 years in the early-mid 80's. We maintained a friendship until the 90's when he and I both moved on with our separate lives. I did his tax returns every year until he moved. He introduced me to Paul Newman, and I watched them race each other at Summit Point. When Charlie lived on a houseboat, I stayed with him and showered with a hose because the bilge pump broke. He loved my two young children, and disciplined them with love. I started a friendship with his ex-wife Mary, and we all double dated, can you imagine? That was Charlie and I setting the example of "blended families".
Rest in peace Charlie, always in my heart.

My prayers go out to the family. I was one of Charles' classmates from Swainsboro, GA and always have fond memories of him. I haven't seen him since we were teenagers, but remembering him brings a smile.

Chris, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of loss. I first met your dad when we were teenagers in Sunday school. Yep, Sunday school. He became a very special person in my life. When he came home a few years ago I was so blessed to be able to spend time with him and remember the good ole days. Though we had both been through our trials in life we quickly picked up our friendship where we left it over 40 years before. I am so glad we had that visit. He laughed when he told me then I was the only person who ever called him Charles instead of Charlie or Butch. He told me when he left to go back to FL that when I thought of him I should listen to the song, Remember When. I encourage you to do the same. He loved you Chris with all his heart. He was proud of you. He was a sweet man just as he had been when he was a teenager. Rest in Peace my friend, Charles. I will always remember when.

What can i say dad, other than you will be missed. I will remember you fondly Every time i look at my husband, every time i hear Elvis, watch nascar, sing travelin soldier, or do karaoke in general. Things may have been rough at times, but you were always a hoot and an individual. I love you and will remember you just how you wanted me to.
