Chester Aubuchon Obituary

AUBUCHON, Chester "Chet" Joseph, 88, of Ruskin, died at home April 14, 2005. He was married to the former Janet Richmond for 56 years. He received his B.S. and M.S. from Michigan State University, where he is honored in the Hall of Fame as their first All American basketball player. He lost his father at age 11 and his mother raised nine children in Gary, Ind. He was inducted to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. He played professional basketball for the Detroit Falcons. He coached high school basketball in Owosso and Holly, Mich. He retired from St. Clair, Mich., County Community College as dean of students, where he believed in the "open door" policy at work and at home. He was honored by the City of Port Huron, Mich., with a "Chet Aubuchon Day" in 1964. He was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in 1963. Chet, an incredibly humble man, did talk about his team beating the Harlem Globetrotters 63 to 39 and "the Globetrotters weren't fooling around that day." He served as ensign in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific where he participated in the evacuation of prisoners of war. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet; his sister, Lillian Aubuchon; and several nieces and nephews. Eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Michigan. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been set up at St. Clair County Community College or donations may be made to LifePath Hospice in Sun City Center.

Janet,

You and Chet were the best neighbors there could ever be. We shared many years that John and I will always remember. All of my family will miss Chet as he always had time for us all.
