Cody Davis Obituary

DAVIS, Cody Fowler, 76, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 30, 2007, surrounded by her loving children, Kimberly, Cody, and Jim. A lifetime resident of Tampa, she was a devoted mother, a realtor and a dedicated volunteer, and was passionately committed to her family and friends. Cody was born August 1, 1931, in Tampa, the third and youngest daughter of Tampa attorney Cody Fowler and his wife, Maude Stewart Fowler. Her family came to Florida in the 1920' s, when her paternal grandmother, Maud Fowler, arrived to develop the city of Temple Terrace, where she later served as the vice mayor in 1925. Cody attended Helen Hill Elementary School and Wilson Middle School until she developed polio. She later attended the National Cathedral School and Mount Vernon School in Washington, D.C. and Duke University. The culmination of her education was her traveling throughout the United States with her father in 1951, while he served as president of the American Bar Association. Like her grandmother, Cody worked actively in Tampa' s real estate market. She began her career as a realtor with Leslie Blank, and later worked with W. H. Toole and Associates and others. She deeply valued her relationships with her colleagues and clients, many of whom remained lifetime friends. Cody was also, as her family has always been, committed to community service. She volunteered her time at Tampa General Hospital for 45 years, often working in the emergency room assisting families in times of crisis. Additionally, she was a member of the Junior League of Tampa, which named her the 2002 Sustainer of the Year. A cancer survivor, she served on the board of the Children' s Cancer Center and was passionate about its cause. She was a lifelong member of St. Andrew' s Episcopal Church, a member of the Tampa Yacht and Country Club and a maid in the Royal Court of the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. Cody considered her greatest accomplishment to be her children, whom she raised almost single-handedly after her marriage and divorce. She was fiercely devoted to the happiness and education of her sons, Jim and Cody, and daughter, Kimberly. Jim is an attorney and former state representative and congressman. Cody is an attorney, community leader and published author of legal thrillers. Kimberly is the deputy director of the Marine Fisheries Program of the World Wildlife Fund in Washington D.C. Cody is survived by her sister, Maude Pallardy; three children, Jim Davis and wife, Peggy, of Tampa, Cody Davis and wife, Beth, of Tampa, and Kimberly Davis Reyher and husband, U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr Josh Reyher; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Mary Patton, Peter, Caroline, William and Cody; one nephew, Lee Pallardy of Tampa and his family; and two nieces, Gail Pallardy Lykes of Tampa and Margo Pallardy Kelly of Jacksonville, and their families. A memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m., with a reception immediately following in the parish hall, Friday, November 2, at St. Andrew' s Episcopal Church, which is located at the corner of Marion and Madison Streets in downtown Tampa. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to may make memorial donations in Cody' s name to the Children' s Cancer Center, 4901 W. Cypress St., Tampa, FL 33607 www.childrenscancercenter.org or to a charity of your choice. Please sign the online guestbook at www.blountcurry.com

Dear Davis family:
What pleasant mememories I have of your MOM. We spent hours at those tennis matches, philosophizing as we rooted you on. She was always so kind to all of the kids. I remember her dynamite striped sunglasses. I had to go buy a pair like them. I know she was always there for you as you have been for her. Please accept our condolences. You are in our thoughts and prayers, Kathy and Emilio Echevarria

Our thoughts and prayers are with you on the loss of your wonderful mother. Cody was the flower girl in my mother's wedding. Henry and I saw a lot of Cody over the years because of our close friendship with Betsy Campbell McInnes.

Dear Davis Family,
John and I are terribly sorry to learn of your loss. As a friend of Kim's from college, I only got to meet your mother a couple of brief times, but she was obviously a much loved and accomplished woman who created a wonderful family. She and you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Most sincerely,
Celia Civello
