Dave HUMES Obituary

HUMES, Dave a fixture in San Antonio's real estate industry and golfing communities stretching from Michigan to Texas to Florida, passed away on August 14, 2024 in Tampa, Florida, while surrounded by his family. He was 90 years old. Dave grew up in Lansing, MI, and graduated from Sexton High School as its Senior Class President. He was awarded an Evans Caddy Scholarship to Michigan State University, where he played on their Big Ten golf team and met his wife of 64 years, Marian Humes. After two years of service in the U.S. Army and beginning his career in Michigan, Dave and Marian, with their three boys, Steve (Leigh), Tom (Lisa, decd.), and Jim (Jillian Rudman) moved to Texas, where Dave distinguished himself during a 56 year career in the real estate business. As an executive with several property management organizations and then founder of FDH Asset Management, he helped to fuel the growth of the region, holding leadership positions in professional associations such as President of the San Antonio Apartment Association, President of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, and Chairman of the Commercial Divestment Division of SABOR. Upon retiring, Dave and Marian moved to Tampa, FL, to be closer to Steve and Leigh. He spent the last eight years building new friendships and celebrating his Scottish heritage as a member of the St. Andrews Society. Those who knew Dave will remember his unfailing integrity, warmth, sense of humor, gentle manner, and ability to bring a smile to anyone around him. They will also remember his love of golf, a sport he pursued throughout his life. He first shot his age at 72 and repeated the feat hundreds of times over the following years. He will be greatly missed by Marian, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren, Sera, Nicholas, and Devon, his extended family, and countless friends from every chapter of his life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the Western Golf Association, which sponsors the Evans Scholars Program. www.wgaesf.org .

Pam and I are sorry for your loss... I had the good fortune of meeting Dave three years ago when I was invited to join the Carrollwood Senior's Golf Group. Dave was always a pleasure to talk with and play golf with, and I truly enjoyed and appreciated his wonderful stories and his willingness to share golf advice. Dave's love for Marian and his entire family was always evident in his stories and his actions! We will keep Dave and your entire family in our thoughts and prayers...

Shared many fun times with Dave and Marion over the years when we all lived in San Antonio. Those times only bring smiles to me in remembrance of what a great person and friend he was. Sending loving thoughts and condolences to you all.

I only had the pleasure to know Dave for the last two and a half years or so, but always loved to see him and Marian come out to our musical jobs whenever we would play. He was one of the kindest people I ever met, and always a joy to talk with. I will miss seeing his smiling face, but I have faith, and trust he is now at peace with the Lord.

Dave, my dear father in law was the kindest, most sincere man I´ve ever met. I had the utmost pleasure of spending the last 8 years very close to him. My heart is broken. He will be missed greatly by so many.
