David PALMER Obituary

PALMER, David Allen

63, a new resident of Pensacola, FL, passed away July 31, 2018, after living large with lung cancer since his diagnosis in July 2016.

David was born in Normal, IL, March 14, 1955 to Robert Allen and Marian (Grace Allen) Palmer. After graduating Heyworth High School and holding several local jobs, he moved to Texas living in several cities during his time there. He discovered his love for cycling and triathlons and is best known to his Texas friends as the one who always came in second (to Lance Armstrong). His passion for cycling was deep and he continued off and on until his early 50s. After Texas he moved to Florida where he was fortunate to be hired by a medical device company which later became Medtronic, where he spent 22 years in pacemaker and defibrillator sales. He enjoyed renovating his house and entertaining most of south Tampa in his home on a regular basis, his pets, heli-skiing with friends, and traveling to the Tour de France. In June 2007, a chance meeting initiated by mutual friends at Starbucks is where he met his wife. They married in April 2008 and enjoyed entertaining together, but to a smaller crowd (smile). His passion became providing for his family and boating on the weekends. Several months after his cancer diagnosis, the couple purchased an RV and set off for David's bucket list trip which included seeing family and friends he hadn't seen in years. For a year and a half, they traveled to all parts of the country, enjoying the beauty, new experiences and their time together.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; Zak the cat; and Luke, Kaya, and Max, his beloved boxers. He is survived by his wife, Julie (Clements) Palmer; daughter and son-in-law, Casey (Dan) Fundora; son, C.W. Guyer; sister, Patti (Palmer) Whitlock; nephew, Cody (Kelly) Whitlock; in-laws, Bruce (Nelda) Clements; and Poppy the dog, that never left his side during his illness.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W. Platt Street, Tampa, FL, 33606, Monday, August 6, 2018, at 3 pm, officiated by Rev. Justin LaRosa in the Sanctuary. Cookies and coffee will be offered in the Harnish Activities Center after the service, followed by a casual gathering at one of David's favorite local hangouts, 717 on Howard Ave. In lieu of flowers, David would love for donations to be made to The Humane Society of Tampa Bay, ATTN: Development, 3607 N. Armenia Ave., Tampa, FL, 33607.

Rest In Peace David. You were always a pleasure to work with, well respected and had a fun sense of humor. I don't feel working in a cardiac Cath lab is healthy for ANYBODY. Too many gone too soon. Please hug CA for all of us when you run into him. I'm sure you are a beautiful Angel too. God Bless your family.

To the family of David, we offer our most sincere condolences. The "dash" from 1955 through 2018 impacted a lot of people, and we are so grateful for sharing some of the moments in that "dash". Praying those memories will sustain and comfort you until.

A lot of us came to know David, as "Patti's little brother", growing up in Illinois. And what a cool little brother he was. David, you will be missed by many. Patti, hang in there. We love you.
