Deborah Bellet Obituary

BELLET, Deborah Walker, 54, died June 18, 2009, after a year-long courage-ous battle with cancer. She was a resident of Hernando County' s Pine Island and an associate at Seaside Realty. She was also the author of the cookbook, "Feast or Famine." Deborah died at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, where she was compassionately cared for by staff and where her husband, Fred Bellet, family and friends were in constant attendance. Deborah was born in Monroe, Mich., and lived her life in Florida and Tennessee. She was an environmental activist whose most recent project was Living Green: an Earth Day Celebration, which took place in April in Hernando Beach. She was also an advocate of HR676, The National Healthcare Referendum. She campaigned for President Barack Obama and fought hard for the overhaul of the nation' s ineffectual healthcare system. Deborah Walker Bellet is survived by her husband, Fred Bellet, a photojournalist for "The Tampa Tribune" The Florida Communications Group; her sons, Jeremiah D. Vincent of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Christopher R.C. Vincent of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and her daughter, MacKenzie E. Shipe of Pine Island; her brother, Earl Walker of Monroe, Mich., and her sisters, Bette Rodey of Monroe, Mich., Deanna Ansell of Skiatook, Okla., Peggy Miller of Monroe, Alma Sweet of Cache, Okla., and Claudette Siar of St. Petersburg, Fla. She was the proud grandmother of nine. The family will receive friends for a celebration of life 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, near Pine Island' s Alfred A. McKethan Park, at the family' s home on Pine Island Drive, County Road 495. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center on Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville, Fla.

All three of Deborah's grown children were beside her at hospice showing the same love and devotion she had given to them. Deborah’s husband, myself, my husband and my daughter were all with her and her children at hospice. She received many visitors and talked with family and friends on the telephone.

As Deborah said, "Claudette, we began this life together and so shall we end it." I was with her at hospice for weeks. She did not suffer.

Family and friends buried her off a small yacht in the Gulf of Mexico, offshore from her island home. As yellow roses floated out to sea and her favorite music played, we watched the dolphins jump at sunset.

Deborah, see you in Katmandu... Love, Claudette

Found and lost within a year a sister that showed us a part of our father that we missed. Our father would had said," Thanks Deb, for taking care of that for me."

Out of my 16 siblings (counting his, hers and theirs)Deb was the sister of my heart. She never failed to say I love you when we ended a conversation.
She always knew when I wasn't feeling well and despite the fact she was in pain she would worry about me.I just read the "Community " article in Hernando Today and while it is a good article it can't capture the essence of Debbie. She surely was "A Life Well Lived".

Deborah Bellet was an extraordinary woman. When she was first taken to Hospice the family was told she would live 4-7 days. She defined the doctors and lived for 5 weeks. While in Hospice, she greeted visitors with the same grace she had if you visited her in her home. Her passion for life was what kept her alive. Her family and friends looked forward to hearing Deb’s voice every day. She even hosted a tea party with the help of her family and friends and the Hospice staff. As sick as she was and knowing she had limited time, she still cared about the well being of others. She never once felt sorry for herself. For those of us that knew her and loved her, our lives are richer and fuller. My dear friend, rest in peace.
