Edward Young Obituary

rephoto,AFREEFLG,z YOUNG, Edward L., 76, went to join his Lord on Monday, June 14, 2004, after a year-long illness. Mr. Young was a member of Living Word Church in New Port Richey and a former member of First Christian Church in Tampa, where he served as Deacon, Elder and later chairman of the Elders. He was also his Sunday School class president. Ed was a true Tampa Bay Bucs fan from day 1, and also became a Tampa Bay Lightning fan over the last two years. Ed was a devoted baseball fan and became a follower of the Tampa Bay Rays from the first game. Ed was a true patriot serving in the Pacific Theater in the Army of Occupation Signal Corp in Kyoto, Japan, in World War II. He flew his American flag every day and was so proud to be an American. Ed was an accountant for Feeds for Florida and the Tampa Bay Pilots Association before retiring in 1990. Ed was an avid bridge player and bowler and also enjoyed writing. In June of 2003, he had an article published in the Prime Time section of the Tam pa Tribune. Ed had just completed his autobiography last year entitled "A Window Always Opens", which will be treasured by his family for years to come. Ed and his wife, Phyllis, made their home in Tampa from 1959-1996 coming from New York state. In 1996, they moved to Holiday, Fla. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Phyllis B. Young; three beloved daughters, Susan (Chris) Hauswald, Joyce (Alfred) Collera and Amy (John) Gossett. Also surviving are one grandson, Edward A. Collera; two granddaughters, Jen and Julie Hauswald; a sister, Annamae (Homer) Wilson of Wellsville, N.Y. and Holiday, Fla.; a brother, Douglas (Betty) Young of Fillmore, N.Y.; a close cousin, David McCarthy, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Brooks and Marion Young, and brother, Daniel Young. A memorial service will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home Chapel.
